To Stand or not to Stand...that is the question

Friday during a preseason game San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick refused to stand for the National Anthem, and says he'll continue to not stand.  ""I'll continue to sit. ... I'm going to continue to stand with the people that are being oppressed. To me, this is something that has to change, and when there's significant change — and I feel like that flag represents what it's supposed to represent, and this country is representing people the way it's supposed to — I'll stand."

I mentioned this on my facebook page but thought I should expand on my thoughts and strangely people seem to be interested in my opinions for some reason.

Colin has every right to do this and I respect him to a certain extent.  He believes that black men and women are being singled out, and often killed, and this is his way of bring attention to it.  I can't argue with the idea as it sure seems that being a black man in the United States of America has become a problem.

However, in my opinion, this is not going to shine anything on the "Black Lives Matter" group.  This is just going to single one man out and make him look bad, and that is Colin.

In my opinion what Colin is doing is disrespected the men and women who risk, and often give, their lives for this country.  I don't agree with everything this country does but when the National Anthem plays I get to my feet and I take off my hat and I face the flag.

If Colin wanted to wear one of these shirts like the WNBA players did I understand that, but look at the picture in the new article above, they are STANDING during the National Anthem.  (They don't all have their hands on their hearts...but that is a different debate).

I've seen a few people compare what Colin is doing to Muhammad Ali but I disagree with this as well.  Ali was protesting a war by not going to war.

Again I understand what Colin is doing and saying but what does this accomplish?  What is the end game?  This kind of protest reminds me of the Occupy Wallstreet movement.  What is the end game? Are people suddenly going to realize killing people is wrong because Colin didn't stand up during the National Anthem?

If he wanted to make a statement he could do several things.  He could walk away from the NFL and work with the underprivileged youth.  He could donate money into a college fund and challenge other people to do the same.  He could do a lot of productive things to do this.  Hell he could say he isn't playing in the games until things change but this is disrespectful to the wrong people.

I know he says it isn't but that is how it is viewed and perception is often more important than the message.  ""I have great respect for the men and women that have fought for this country," said Kaepernick. "I have family, I have friends that have gone and fought for this country. And they fight for freedom, they fight for the people, they fight for liberty and justice, for everyone. That’s not happening.

"People are dying in vain because this country isn’t holding their end of the bargain up, as far as giving freedom and justice, liberty to everybody. That’s something that’s not happening.

"I’ve seen circumstances where men and women that have been in the military have come back and been treated unjustly by the country they fought have for, and have been murdered by the country they fought for, on our land. That’s not right."

Look at that last statement.  I would be a LOT more supportive if he was standing up for that, but not for what he initially said.

Overall I think Colin, like a lot of us in this country, are frustrated by what we're seeing.  We are tired of the violence and the hate.  He is doing something which most of us aren't, so again let me say that I respect him for that.  However when push comes to shove I believe that what he is doing is wrong and there are better approaches, especially for someone with his means and public stature.

Movie Review: Insidious

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whenever it is you're reading this.  I'm back with another movie review, this time the 2010 horror flick Insidious.  It stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Ty Simpkins.  "A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further."  As for 8/28, when I'm writing this intro, on IMDB it has a 6.8 over on IMDB.  Enough of this, lets get to my thoughts!
  • Creepy, mom and son in the same pajamas
  • Its the dude from the Conjuring, does he only do creepy flicks?
  • She better not quit her day job...wait that is her day job?  I'm sorry...I'm so sorry
  • That broken step will come back in some way I'm sure
  • If there is a place in my house I need to take a lantern to see I'm not going there
  • Ah broken step, I knew you'd reappear in our lives, but who knew so early!
  • I don't think anything in this scene was English
  • That kids dead, I've seen dead kids and that is one...I mean...in movies obviously....
  • That was a creepy old ladies voice!  Why are old ladies and little girls always creepy in movies
  • Finally someone uses some logic in a horror movie, interference on the baby monitor
  • Well that was really creepy
  • That house just screams horror movie
  • Ha ha look at his tiny cell phone!
  • This movie is a little dark for me, not heavy dark but shot dark
  • Weird camera angle
  • This random woman is creepy for sure!  I think she might be a demon!
  • No don't follow him!  Have you never see horror movies
  • And of course faith comes into it
  • I knew she was a pervert, watching her son and wife "sleep"
  • Well that was slightly unsettling
  • I love that he is eating a hot pocket...very strangely
  • Is he using a view finder?
  • Why isn't the husband arguing more, I would be.  Elise sounds INSANE!
  • Spiritual Body?  *eye roll*
  • The Further?  This lady is insane!
  • She feed off Daltons pictures, that is how they con men work
  • She is putting on a gas mask...this is completely insane
  • Yep and the lightbulbs go off, carnies are awesome!
  • I knew this was the moms fault!  KNEW IT!
  • She got closer...and closer and closer...and she threw a rock at him!
  • It was a big rock
  • I'm pretty sure the Wyatts are going to show up soon?  FOLLOW THE BUZZARDS!!
  • Oh she ate a Joker Fish
  • Oh its the one door from IT Crowd where the emo guy lives!  He is being more violent than I remember though
  • So are the two guys in white shirts this movies version of Roy and Moss?
  • It makes a lot of sense that Tiny Tim was a demon
  • The demon is pretty damn awesome in this flick!
  • Okay this is a little overboard with the house shaking
  • I think that was a weeping angel!
  • Yes, follow my voice, you're not in an echo chamber or anything!
  • So did the demon win in the end?  Is he going to eat her intestines now?
Well that was something.  I don't know what to think about it to be honest.  I mean it wasn't bad but I'm not a fan of not getting a full story.  I guess I'd give it a 6/10.

The acting was good but not great.  Renai was kind of underwhelming but Josh was pretty good as usual.

I also found the mom just horrible.  Annoying and creepy and I thought for sure this wa all happening due to her but I was wrong.

Overall the flick wasn't bad but not anything amazing.  Until next time...remember...don't EVER take pictures of Patrick Wilson!

Movie Review: Batman: The Killing Joke

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whenever it is you've come across this movie review.  I am back with a review, obviously, this time with the latest animated Batman flick:  The Killing Joke.  I am writing this on 8/20 and it has an IMDB rating of 6.7 (really?  That is low in my opinion). It stars  Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill and Tara Strong.  "As Batman hunts for the escaped Joker, the Clown Prince of Crime attacks the Gordon family to prove a diabolical point mirroring his own fall into madness."
  • ITS BATMAN!  I mean the real Batman...its like I'm back the Animated Series
  • Well at least with Batman and hopefully Joker!
  • Wow...Batgirl is not good and horrible lines
  • Did Batman just hit that guy with the Batmobile?  Did this become a videogame suddenly?
  • Really?  Is he flirting with Batgirl?
  • Batgirl just got beat by a common thug, how embarrassing...is she now sulking?
  • Why a stereotypical gay character
  • Did Batgirl learn nothing from the various incarnations of Robin?  Batman knows best
  • THE ELEVATOR?!
  • Partners not equals...yeah that sounds right
  • Are...are they going to kiss....good grief they did!!
  • Are...are we going to have batbabies?
Not a good idea kids
  • I already regret not seeing this at the one day screening in the theaters
  • This is bad Batman, it is going to cause issues.  You can't have feelings and do what you do...and you know that don't you Bats.  I can't wait to hear the Joker mess with you about this one!
  • Why do they even try to use guns on Batman?  Don't they learn?
  • Gotham people are much stronger then others, if I got hit in the head with a hook from a motorcycle I think I'd be dead!
  • Wow a period joke, foolish young man
  • The next Joker?  I wonder if the Joker is more a moniker instead of one person
  • Why do they always hold up the tape, can't people duck under?
  • That isn't the right Bullock voice...damn I was hoping for a full reunion from the Animated Series
  • Did Michael Bay just direct that random side boob shot of Barbara
  • Seriously wish it was the voices from the Animated series all around.  Would have made this perhaps perfect
  • Is it...could it be...is it him....wait...that isn't even Joker!

  • IT IS HIM!  THE CORRECT JOKER!!!  *does the happy Snoopy Dance*
  • Is...is this the legit Joker backstory?
  • Not a huge fan the art design for Joker but a minor complaint
  • Is it wrong that I just laughed at Jokers joke?
Insert joke about the spine of a book here
  • Well that was creepy with the unbuttoning...even for Joker
  • Just like that?  Never walk again....wait...are they implying...that he...wow!
  • I love that they booed the courtroom joke!
  • I wonder if Seal-Boy is in this group of freaks...also are they based on American Horror Story
  • A musical number?  Wow
  • I love the Joker!!
  • I wonder if Bats is going to beat up the Fat Lady, I hope so!
  • HE IS!, She is like The Blob from X-Men
  • HA HA HA!!  BANG!
Oops...wrong pocket
  • Wait...is this a moment of sanity for Joker
Is that sanity I see in your eyes Mr. J?
  • That was a pretty good joke, even Batsy laughed...which is a REALLY weird sound
  • But...why does Joker stop laughing...do you think...that Batsy...you know...delivered the final punch line?
Okay that was amazing.  I mean simply amazing!  I've never read the comic but I am going to find it right away.

I mean honestly the only complaint I have for the flick is that it wasn't all the original voice actors one last time.  That is just the fan boy in me though it hardly hurt the film.

I am shocked at how low a score this has on IMDB.  I give it a 9/10.  I think this is my favorite Batman flick at this point or right up there with The Dark Knight

Honestly I loved this flick because it is the darkness and grittiness that I like about Batman.  The characters are darker then most other superheroes.  The subjects are darker.  It feels, in a sense, more real.  I mean who doesn't feel for Joker now and then or understand.  I mean if we lived in a world where superheroes and villains roamed I don't know if I wouldn't be the Joker.  My grip on reality isn't the greatest at times or the fact that I'm willing to admit that mean that I am grounded in reality! I guess that is the question the Joker is asking Batsy there at the end.

The other question, which I mentioned in my blow by blow above, is does Batsy kill Joker?  Jokers laugh stops while he keeps laughing.  Now I imaging Joker looking at Batman like he is crazy because he knows that joke isn't very good but that is just in my mind.  Batman and Joker can't exist without each other in my opinion.  They are the opposite side of the same coin.  Always have been and always will be.  Ying and Yang so to speak.  I look at it that Joker keeps Batman grounded because he knows, deep down, that he is just one step away from Joker.  Seeing the madness in Joker is what keeps Batman from going there.  Without him, what would stop Batman from going into that abyss he mentioned early on in the flick.

Every time Mark Hamill says he wont' do Joker again I get sad but he keeps coming back for "One more" and I hope that always happens.  I know everyone loves Luke but to me Mark will always be the Joker and if there is an animated Joker and Batman it should be Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy. Just like Peter Cullen and Frank Welker will always be Optimus and Megatron in my head even with they aren't, the same goes for Hamill and Conroy.  If/when they don't do the voices I feel something is missing.  Yeah, call me a fan boy but I know what I like.  That'd be like someone else doing Kramer on Seinfeld, its just wrong!

If you're a Batman fan you need to watch this flick!  If you enjoy a good story watch this.  I know I'll be going back and watching this again, and it made me want to watch the Animated Show all over again!

Until next time, I'm off to see if Netflix has the Animated Series!

To Trump or not to Trump....that is the question

It felt good doing an actual blog entry a few days ago I decided to do another.  This is one that I've been thinking about writing about for a while, so much so that I think I've written about it twice and then stopped.  That topic....

Donald Trump

Yeah, he is in the WWE Hall of Fame
When he first announced he was running for President I remember turning to my coworkers and saying he was going to win.  I still honestly believe that.  There are enough stupid Americans who will vote for him because he thinks like them.

I want to yell this at almost everyone
Honestly I believe he will win because people are stupid and will vote against their own best interests and because he says what people are thinking.  Part of me is refreshed by this because you don't see him changing what he says for who he is in front of.  On the flip side it scares me because he is saying what the general public thinks, and the general public is stupid!

What...don't get mad at me for saying the truth.  I'm sorry but the general public is as dumb as a box of rocks as the saying goes.  I went looking for pictures to show how stupid Americans are just at political rallies and I got depressed.  The things people are willing to put on a piece of poster board!

Seriously...I know I'm going off topic here but guess what, it is my blog and I can do that!  Looking at pictures and watching clips of the people in political rallies scares me.  If they were in black and white I'd think it was around 1941!

Okay back to Donald.  What I love best about his entire campaign is that he is basically a wrestling heel...okay bad guy for those who aren't used to insider terms.  He went out and basically said anything he could and waited to see what people reacted to.  All he needs to do is start wearing of these suits:

He can probably leave the Tennis Racket at home
He isn't nearly as entertaining as The Brain
Don't believe me?  Go back and watch some Bobby Heenan or Jim Cornette interviews.  They say the same type things.  They said outrageous things and always got a reaction and that is what Donald did!  And much like the wrestling fans of the late 70's and 80's the country ate it up.  People were outraged!  But more importantly they were talking...about him.

You see boy and girls...we have no one to blame but ourselves for the fact that he is the Republican nominee.  If we, a the general public, had ignored him, he would have gone away.  Much like a bug bite it would have sucked for a few days but overall it is better then the alternative of scratching till you get an infection.

Well we have an infection now don't we?  We have an infection that could be much more deadly come November.  We could have left him alone and he would have imploded but instead we fed him. Much like a Mogwai we knew we shouldn't but what harm could come of it.  One chicken leg can't hurt that much and then BAM!

I think this might be actual rally footage...don't quote me on that
We fell for his trap!  To keep with the Gremlins references we allowed him to change the clocks on us!  That isn't to say that I believe he will be a bad President, I don't know.  He has a lot of crazy ideas but a lot of them he can't actually do.

Lets be honest, the President, while called the most Powerful Person in the World, doesn't have a lot of power on his own.  I do believe that he will hurt our standing in the World Community however, and lets be honest, we are just coming out of a pretty deep hole.

However we haven't learned our lesson yet have we?  I still see people constantly talking about him. We continue to feed this monster and he continues to grow!  ENOUGH PEOPLE!

My thoughts exactly Stone Cold!
Instead of talking about how bad Donald is going to be talk about how great Hillary is going to be! You can't beat negativity with negativity!
Look what I just wrote.  If ANYONE knows that its me.  I might be the most negative person in the world.  At times I'm so negative I'm positive!

Stop feeding the beast!  Stop with all the memes and charts and everything else.  Stop focusing on him at all.  I don't believe that if you want beat evil you become evil yourself and that is what so many people are doing.  I know that they say you fight fire with fire but I believe that the saying if you sling mud everyone gets dirty.

I'm begging everyone to stop talking about him...and yes I see the irony of me begging people not to talk about him while I'm doing the same thing but I am willing to be the bad guy and do it.

As Fancy Lee said "Every organization needs a designated asshole. That is my gift to the Killjoy collective. The asshole may not be liked, but he will always be necessary. Because he does what's needed."  And that is my gift to this collective.  Let me be the asshole and the bad guy so you boys and girls don't have to be.

Until next time, please remember!

Top 3 Guilty Movie Pleasures

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whenever it is you've come to find my blog.  Today I'm going to talk about my top 3 movie guilty pleasures.  You know the movies I'm talking about. Ones that you know aren't "good" but you enjoy them anyway.  Movies that most people couldn't believe that you like and enjoy.

1.  Good Burger

This movie makes me laugh ANYTIME I've watched it.  If I see this movie on TV I will stop, I will watch and I will laugh.  "Two dim-witted teenagers are forced to save the fast food restaurant they work at from going out of business, despite a new-and-improved burger joint opening across the street that want to be the "Top Dog" in the fast food industry."  Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson are amazing together and have great chemistry.  Throw in Abe Vigoda and Linda Cardellini along with the rest of the cast you've got a very funny movie.  My favorite part is when they are dancing in the asylum personally.

Kangaroo Jack would be proud of you!

I had a hard time not putting this at number 1.  This movie is SO bad it is good.  Once again Linda Cardellini is in this flick along with Matthew Lillard, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar. And of course everyones favorite talking dog Scooby.  Who by the way looks AWFUL in this flick. Yet it cracks me up every time.  As bad as it is they did a good job of doing all the usual stuff you'd see in the cartoon.  Secret passages.  Over eating.  Silly disguises.  Losing of the glasses.  All of it and I laugh along the entire time!  Matthew Lillard as Shaggy was PERFECT!  I am one of the few people who enjoy his work on things like Hackers and Scream.  Overall not a good movie but I love it and another flick I'll stop and watch EVERY TIME

Some would say this move was nightmare inducing, and this gif shows it might be right

I had a had time picking a third flick here.  I watch so many bad movies and movies people don't like that I wasn't sure.  I mean you have One Eyed Monster, Rubber, Birdemic, Any of the Ernest flicks, Dragnet, several Nicky Cage flicks to name a few.  But then I remembers Hudson Hawk.  "A cat burglar is forced to steal Da Vinci works of art for a world domination plot."  Reading that you think 'okay kind of goofy but that doesn't sound bad.'  What they fail to mention is that Bruce Willis and Danny Aiello are the cat burglars...who sing songs to time their crimes.  Yep.  They sing as they are robbing places...and it is WONDERFUL!  Throw in an amazing supporting cast, including James Coburn, Richard E. Grant and Sandra Bernhard and you've got a fun silly horrible flick that I could watch on repeat!

What Bruce Willis did to the critics of this flick
There you go, three guilty pleasures that I am ashamed to admit I like but I love!  Seriously all three of these movies make me laugh just thinking about them and isn't that the point of films?  Enjoyment?  Until next time....abyssinia!

My feeling when someone says bad things about my guilty pleasures

Why I hate the Olympics....or is it that I hate the media and society

Yeah, I said it, I hate the Olympics.  I find them boring.  I don't care about most of the events the other 1445 days why do I care about the hammer throw sudden because it is an international competition.  My guess is that there are international track and field events year around.

But that isn't really the real reason I hate them.  I hate them because 98% of the coverage isn't about some of the finest athletes in the world!  It is about the village being bad.  Or the area they are going to be being bad.  Or the water being bad.  Or athletes not meeting curfew.  Yes, I said that right,

That isn't to say that there isn't some great coverage for the athletes themselves but so far the major stories that I've seen, someone not watching, is that a swimmer lied about how and why he was held up.  A gymnast didn't put her hand on her heart.  A black woman won gold for the first time in swimming.

Only one of those is an Olympic story.  The other is just bullshit.  I guess you could say this is less about the Olympics and more about what our media covers but I blame the Olympics right now.

The lovely and talented Gabby Douglas won and medal and was, as she said, overcome with joy. Then you get articles like this.  Michael Phelps laughs his way through the Anthem but that is okay because he had his hand on his heart and lets be honest, the fact that he is a white male helped.

Yep no disrespect on the left but tons on the Right
Jesus...look at what I just wrote.  The fact that that comes to my mind in 2016 is disgusting but lets be honest it sure looks that way doesn't it.

Phelps says he laughed because his friend yelled "O" after part of it because I guess they do that in Baltimore...they must be the most unpatriotic people ever...wait....oh they have their hands over their hearts....oh then it doesn't matter.

Of course people are claiming everything from she was pouting because she wasn't as big a star this year to a black lives matters protest.  You know what probably happened....she forgot.  You try being in front of MILLIONS of people AND being full of emotions.  I'll be honest, if I won a medal you'd have to sedate me because I'd be so happy or hold me up because I'd be so overcome with joy.

I'd be like this for days if I won
But you know what, I'm wrong here.  Lets destroy this young lady because of it.  Lets attack her because of it.  Because she should know better!  How DARE she not follow the RULES!  How dare she practice FREEDOM of SPEECH.  After all, this is America...where we all do the EXACT SAME THING the EXACT SAME WAY.

I don't think she did ANYTHING disrepectful and I sure in the hell don't think she did it on purpose. But what the fuck to I know.  I'm sure if we could read her mind she was really thinking "Yeah...fuck America and the Anthem and my team mates and all of you folks watching and supporting me...fuck you and your dirty rotten mothers!"

I know that is how I'd feel AFTER this happened.

So why do I hate the Olympics, because it just causes more bullshit to be spewed out about people and society.  When will we learn to just shut up and let people be?  Lets worry about the constant mass shootings, protests, police shootings, student debt crisis, homelessness, childhood hunger or anything that really fucking matters.

Fuck that noise, I don't know what I was thinking.  Lets make sure we know more about Gawker being shut down!  That is the REAL news....brother!

This is how I feel about society anymore
Its rare that I edit one one of these but I am.  As I drove into work this morning I was listening to the 8/18 Best of Mike and Mike Podcast.  Of course one of the major stories was the Olympics. However one of the stories that came up once again had nothing to do with what the athlete was doing at the games.  Deandre Jordan, a basketball player for the Clippers, said that Olympic Gold is above the NBA ring.

That makes sense right?   I mean you're doing this for your country, you're representing every man woman and child in the good ol' U S of A.  This is the best of the best of the best from around the world and you can only do it every four years.  Of course it is above a title that is done once a year.

Sweet baby Jesus, to quote the late great Roddy Piper.  You'd think that he'd punched the Pope the way people respond.  How can he say that if he's never won a NBA ring!  I honestly would think winning a gold medal in any sport is better then winning the championship in the same sport.  You don't get the prestige or the accolades but you can honestly say that you are one of the best in the world if you win a medal.

Can the Cavs or the Broncos honestly say they're the best in the world? They won a title in the US among US teams and they just say "World Champs".  Sorry just the way I see it.  They are the NBA champions but they didn't beat any international teams.  Sure there are some fantastic international players in the NBA but that doesn't mean all the best in the world are in the NBA.

I don't know but it bugged me when Mike Golic and Michael Smith were saying that he hadn't won a NBA ring so he couldn't compare.  I would think this is what most people would say but the response on Mike and Mike I guess I am wrong.  Just another reason I guess I don't like the Olympics, they don't mean anything I guess.

Until next time...

Movie Review: Hell or High Water

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you happen to come across this review. I am back, this time reviewing the flick Hell or High Water.  I saw this last night (7/17) in an early preview.  I am surprised to see that the flick has a 8.3 on IMDB with 902 votes!  It stars Dale Dickey, Ben Foster, Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges.  "A divorced dad and his ex-con brother resort to a desperate scheme in order to save their family's farm in West Texas."

The Good:

The acting in this flick was very good.  I am not a fan of Chris Pine.  I haven't really liked his performance in anything I've seen him in until this flick.  His subtle performance and the emotion he showed just with facial expressions was amazing.  Of course Jeff Bridges and Ben Foster are both actors that could read the phone book on screen and be amazing doing it.  But for me the performance of the flick was Gil Birmingham.  Talk about being subtle and almost blending into the background but being amazing was awesome.  I don't remember him in anything else but he was very good here.

The Bad:

I thought the story itself had a few plot holes in it.  There were just so many little things that left me scratching my head.  Several scenes that I felt did nothing for the film.  I know why they were there but I felt that they failed in their intent.  The biggest thing that I felt came up short was that they tried to build Bridges character as this old timer but without more background it felt flat to me.  I also feel that the audio was off in the beginning I had a hard time hearing things early on.  Now that could have just been me, it could have been a small problem with the theater...I don't know.  But it bothered me enough to put in here.

The Ugly:

There really was nothing ugly in this flick.  Nothing at all.

There you go, my brief thoughts without ruining the flick too much.  Overall I'd give the flick a 6/10, a little lower than those on IMDB currently.  That isn't to say this is a bad flick.  As I told my lovely girlfriend as we were leaving, it was a spectacularly okay movie.  Nothing great but nothing ugly. Everything was basically okay.  Unfortunately I can't say to see this flick in the theaters, only because there is nothing that you'd miss by buying this on Amazon or iTunes.  It is worth checking out but I wouldn't pay the stupidly high theater prices to see it.  Until next time...Abyssinia!

3 Movies that scared me as a kid

This is the third attempt at writing a blog this morning.  Everything I've written thus far becomes so drastically negative.  I don't need to add to the negativity of the world!  So then I thought...what the fuck do I write about?

I honestly don't know.  I've been zoning out looking at this damn white screen for quite a while trying to figure out what to blog about.  I even ended up looking at blogs about what to blog about and still nothing.  I guess I'll do one that was on everyone's list....and that was to make a list!

And of course the first thing that came to my mind was pop culture, but what to make a list of.  Then I decided I'd do the top three movies that scared me as a child.

While I enjoy horror movies now, as a child...not so much.  For those of you who know me personally, you'll find this hard to believe, but I was not always such a manly man!  Stop laughing...no seriously...stop laughing....I CAN WAIT ALL DAY DAMN IT!

Okay hopefully you've all stopped laughing your fool heads off and I can...I HEARD THAT SNICKER!  Let me continue.  Seriously as a child I was not a fan of horror movies but my parents seemed to enjoy renting horror movies for us or not pushing young impressionable minds out of the room.

1.  Critters

The 1986 classic Critters scared the pants off of me.  "A race of small, furry aliens make lunch out of the locals in a farming town."  I don't know why it did but it did.  I enjoy the flick as an adult but as a kid I had many a nightmares about space porcupines eating me and my family.  Okay the family part wasn't ALWAYS so bad depending on my mood but me...I didn't want to be lunch for a furry ball of teeth.

I mean look at those things, what isn't there to scare a child!  Glowing red eyes, rows and rows of teeth, just enough comedy to make you forget they are killing everything.  The things of nightmares.

Looking back I see the bad 80's involved but as a kid I hated them.  It got to the point where I incorporated them into my play so they'd be less scary, which worked...until my parents decided it was time for Critters 2 to be viewed!  They form a giant ball of critters and roll over a guy eating his bones clean!

Yeah that took weeks of bad dreams to get over.  Thanks alot parents!

Yeah this seems obvious.  I didn't have the experience in life to understand what this flick was saying and doing.  I also didn't get the comedy, although this flick didn't have as much comedy as the later flicks did.

I don't think I have to say alot about a man with a glove of knives making a 5 or 6 year old nearly wet his pants.  Strangely enough I don't remember this film giving me nightmares just making me bury my head in my pillow.  This time I can't blame my mom.  She was watching it and I was laying with my head out my door watching TV like I did as a youngster.  Usually it was something cool like M*A*S*H...this time not so much.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know, it wasn't a very scary movie.  However young Gene was scared throughout this entire flick!  My grandpa took me, and has he tells it (I don't remember it really), I spent most of the movie hiding under the seat in front of me.  Honestly I don't know what scared me so much but apparently I was...a lot.  I can see the ghost in the library maybe but not much else after that...oh probably the hands and the chair with Dana.  That creeps me out now as an adult a little bit.

There you go, three movies that scared me as a youngling.  None of them are what I'd call extremely scary but for whatever reason put horrible horrible scars on my souls.  2 out 3 I really enjoy now.  Until next time....abyssinia!

Movie Review: Suicide Squad

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you happen to read this.  I am back and today I'm reviewing the newish flick Suicide Squad.  It stars Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie.  "A secret government agency recruits a group of imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency, which inevitably leads to chaos."

It was an interesting flick to say the least.  Let first say it was nice to see Zuul in a summer movie this year!

Okay seriously now talk about this flick.  First off I don't like this version of the Joker!  Animated Jokers face is the same as mine was when Joker first shows up in this flick.

This isn't a shot at Leto at all.  He was fantastic in what he was given but I didn't like the complete lunatic version of Joker.  I liked the Animated Version and/or the Dark Knight.  Goofy as a pet coon as Jim Ross would say but not completely insane.  This version however, just over the top.  Also I HATE the idea of the tattoos.  I don't know why I just do.  Its not that I hated it but I did dislike it.

While talking about things I disliked the flick was a little long in the tooth.  IMDB lists it at 2 hours and 5 minutes and it felt that way for sure.  There were several things that could have been cut.  The Borderlands-esc introductions for example.  However to be fair it could be that I was/am extremely tired.

Lastly I didn't like the casting of Amanda Waller.  Much like Leto, Viola Davis did a fantastic job but I always envisioned CCH Pounder in the role.  She did the voice on Justice League and Assault on Arkham and she fits the role well.  That is just me nitpicking things however.

I really liked the main groups casting of Captain Boomerang, Deadshot and Harley.  All three were awesome, especially Margot.  She was perfect in the role and fit the character perfect.  Even the voice/accent was perfect.  I'd give her performance 11/10 for sure!

That isn't to say that Smith as Deadshot wasn't good.  He was great as the bad guy with a heart of gold.  Unfortunately he didn't say "I've got to get me one of these" which was wrong.  I mean that is his catch phrase!

The storyline was slow and plotting yet felt rushed as the sametime.  They had one character who we knew nothing about and was dead almost before he was on the screen.  Also the inclusion of Katana felt odd and unneeded.  I'm sure it is for future storyline but it just felt odd.

Overall I enjoyed it but it wasn't anything special, so I'd give it a 6/10.  It wasn't a Marvel flick but it was enjoyable.  I'd like to see a spinoff for both Deadshot and Harley, especially if you can get a good storyline for Harley.

This isn't a flick that needs to be seen in the theaters but worth checking out if you like DC or "superhero" flicks.

Oh one more complaint...where the fuck was seal boy?

Until next time...please remember this important thing...
