Raw 1994-01-31

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-03-29, we are going to the last show of January 1994.  It is time to get Raw!  Tonight we find out who is going to face Yokozuna first at Wrestlemania.  Plus it is the 1-2-3 Kid taking on Johnny Polo!
  • It will be interesting to see how IRS does on commentary
  • Wait...the Kid is on crutches!  I guess he will not be taking on Johnny
  • Is there a better theme song than the Quebecers?
  • How is this legal?  Marty should be suspended and fined!
  • Polo might not be a full-time wrestler but he just beat Marty less than a month ago there Kid!
  • Polo does a great job of wrestling like a manager, it cannot be easy!
  • HE JUST TRIED TO BREAK POLO'S NECK!!
  • I do not understand, why does IRS wear suspenders AND a shirt, does he not understand how it works in wrestling?
  • THAT IS IRS GOLD!  RAZOR AND THE KID STOLE IT!!!
  • Miguel is in shape!  Round is a shape, right?
  • Is Miguel related to the Colons?  He sure does look like them
  • What was that?  A weird jumping kick.  Was it a botched Enziguri?
  • Once again Owen Hart gets screwed
  • Lex should not have been in the Royal Rumble, to begin with!  He blew his chance at Summerslam, I was there and he cheated with that loaded forearm!
  • Bret was hoping to win because he was afraid of the Rocket!
  • Did Bret ever face Flexy Lexy in the WWF?  They shot the angle at Wrestlemania 9 but did it ever happen?
  • OH MY GOD!  Who is that "Raw Girl" in the commercial!?
  • Was Bill Alfonso doing double duty with the WWF and ECW at this point?
  • Owen is right!  It is not about the family it is about how Bret tried to hold him down!
  • That explains it, I do not have any All American Wrestling and that seems to be where the Hart Brothers storyline is playing out
  • I think I have said it before but I would take these Raw girls over the Nitro Girls any day of the week and twice on Sunday!
  • QUAKE IS BACK!  I always like Quake...well after I got over him trying to destroy Hulkamania!
  • Quake was only back for a few months and by the end of the year was in WCW once again trying to destroy Hulkamania
  • DAMN!  That was a vicious hooked clothesline
  • This is going on way too long, Quake should have beat this guy in 90 seconds
  • IRS has done a really good job on commentary
  • Maybe my favourite powerslam!  This or Goldust
  • Every one of those fans are going to get an audit!
First off IRS did a fantastic job on commentary.  I would not want him every week but it was a great job for a guy who in WCW did not seem to have the ability to speak.  The Owen segment was great because well Owen was the best Hart on the mic.  The rest was just there for me.  It was all about the coin toss and starting what is now known as the march to Wrestlemania.  Not a bad show but nothing that jumped out either

RESULTS

2020-10-22 NXT UK

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening.....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-10-24, I am checking out the latest edition of NXT UK.  With everything going on I have not kept up with the show but wrestling is wrestling so I think it is time to find out what is going on across the pond!
  • It has been a while since I checked out NXT UK....and I still hate the theme song!
  • There is something about Eddie Dennis that bothers me, I think it is the body.  It just does not look right
  • Yeah I do not see Carter winning this match
  • That was a hell of a slap by Dennis
  • Dennis also has a horrible haircut and I know about horrible haircuts
  • 1 dive, I think I shall keep count
  • What was that?  A weird bodyslam?
  • 1 superkick
  • Nigel is a great announcer, he does the hype so well but is so informative
  • I like that WWE has started to us female refs for female matches
  • That was an ugly tackle and that is good because it felt real
  • Really slow cover by Amale there
  • I got slightly distracted during the match hopefully I did not miss a dive or superkick
  • uggg, I do not like Nina's character.  Did not work for Aiden English probably will not work for her either
  • Trent is looking much older and I like it
  • This will be weird for me with the rounds and such.  I remember some shows in the US, maybe AAW, back in the early 90's did it and it was weird
  • Did Williams just pull Seven up?
  • A lot of lanky guys on NXT UK
  • That DDT should have ended it
  • That was odd because when do people hit the ropes like Seven did there?
  • 2 Superkick
  • A contract signing I wonder if they will fight
  • It is weird that the Russian is the good guy!
  • JESUS WHAT A SLAP!
  • And there is the brawl
A decent show with a really good main event!  Eddie is decent and it was a good build up for next week with Webb and Andrews.  Im interested in knowing where that goes.  WALTER and Ilja will be a hard hitting match for sure.  Honestly the only thing that I found subpar was the womens match.  I will continue to watch when I have time and it was a good show.

RESULTS
  • Eddie Dennis def. Oliver Carter
  • Segment:  Eddie Dennis
  • Video:  Joey Coffey
  • Nina Samuels def. Amale
  • Interview:  Nina Samuels
  • Trent Seven def. Kenny Williams in a Heritage Cup Tournament Match 2 falls to 1
  • Contract Signing: WALTER (NXT UK Champion) & Ilja Dragunov

1994-01-30 Wrestling Challenge

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-03-29, we are going back to the last WWF Challenge of January 1994.  We have Kwang, Sparky Plugg, the Bushwackers and more!

  • Bob Holly and Bad Barry Horowitz!  Yes, please!
  • Two very underrated wrestlers in my opinion.
  • Barry with some long hair at this point!
  • Sparky had a great dropkick, maybe he still does!
  • Sparky did not really do a great top rope splash
  • Lord Alfred had such a unique delivery at this point in his career
  • Man Lex and Bret did such a great job at this rumble
  • Adam Bomb sure was a big man
  • Is this the first time Gary was on WWF TV?
  • Gary, of course, was a mainstay in WCW/NWA as the Italian Stallion
  • Dear lord look at that dropkick!
  • I always forget how southern Adam Bomb was
  • Interesting finish with that slingshot clothesline
  • I do love the Bushwhackers in a guilty pleasure way
  • Borga was just rough looking all around
  • Samu sure was an ugly man!
  • They are just abusing Stryker
  • That was almost clubbering!!
  • Was Kwang always Savio Vega?
A decent show but nothing special.  The Debuts of Kwang and Sparky Plugg but honestly a completely pointless show otherwise.  None of the matches were great.  Unless you like one of these guys I would skip this show.

RESULTS
  • Sparky Plugg def. Barry Horowitz
  • Special Report:  Jack Tunney/Yokozuna (WWF Champion) & Jim Cornette & Mr. Fuji
  • Adam Bomb def. Gary Sabaugh

Ring of Honor 2020-10-16

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever you found todays entry.  Today, 2020-10-20, I am checking out out the most recent ROH show.  I know that means I skipped a few shows and I will eventually go watch them.  This was the latest on my DVR so it is getting the review treatment....

  • It'll be intresting to see how ROH does their show after COVID is over and the Pure Tourney is over
  • I like the promo by Jonathan
  • Is Tracy Williams the new Avatar?  Bonus points to those who get the reference
  • This is my second time seeing Yehi and hee does nothing for me.  I think it is the cocky smile that I have not seen him earn yet.  However I can see him growing on me
  • Seriously if I was Williams I would rip Fred's nose ring out
  • A really good match but the lack of knowledge on these two makes me less invested
  • I LOVE IT!  DRAGON SLEEPER IN THE ROPES!  Love that the rules are coming into play like that
  • Why does EC3 have two jackets on?
  • Well that promo did nothing for me which is sad
  • Why is the ref the only guy with a mask on?
  • I have never really been a fan of Black, but it has been a few years since I saw him.
  • I wish Silas was still in the tourny.
  • BANANA SPLIT!!
  • I do not want to hear kimura again I might scream
  • Silas should just go know Brian out
  • PJ barely got that cart wheel off
  • I am impressed by both of these guys
Another good show.  My lack of knowledge made me slightly less invested but still a really good show.  All four men are really good and the advancement PJ has had over the years really shows from his Justin Gabriel days in WWE.  Woods could be a big star on a bigger stage I think and ROH better work hard to keep him next time his contract comes up because you have to believe WWE will come a knocking.  I cannot wait for next week to see if we end up with a battle of tag team champions or is there an upset?

2020-09-25 ROH Review

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-10-12, I am checking out the September 25th, 2020 episode of Ring of Honor.  Tonight we get to see Silas Young against Fred Yehi and Josh Woods taking on Kenny King.  I am a huge fan of Silas so I am excited to get to this so enough of my rambling!
  • I think this is the best opening on TV, the part about 2012 and whatnot.
  • I kind of like the Quinn McKay segments and the opening.  Makes it feels like a real sport
  • Who was David talking to off-camera?
  • ROH has the weirdest commercials during their show
  • Is Fred the face?  He came off really smarmy at the start of this interview, glad he got a little better as it went.  I think it is the look on his face.  Not sure if he should be a face or a cocky heel, we shall see
  • I hate his nose ring and I hope he does not wrestle with it in because a guy like Silas would rip it out the first chance he got
  • Silas is my favorite ROH talent I think.  I wish he would have gone to WWE for a run because I think he could be a big star on NXT
  • Oh I hate Fred's music
  • I love that Ian is explaining the rules...you know rules!
  • I like that they are both wrestling
  • How long has Caprice been doing commentary?  He might be the best color guy in wrestling.
  • Best commentary team in wrestling, they are treating it like real wrestling.  No screaming, no yelling, no laughing, no joking.  Just calling the action
  • I am surprised to say this but Silas should have sold more in that comeback after the crucifix.  Especially with his legs that were worked on
  • Yehi hitting the middle ropes is weird
  • The announcers got excited and it made me get excited but the went back to normal
  • I hate that Young does that headstand.  It is amazing but out of place for him
  • Josh Woods looks like another wrestler, who I can not put my finger on
  • I love this idea that Woods is coming back to teach King, it is not a wrestling angle and feels real
  • A decent promo by King, I liked the Master Splinter reference
  • King is out of place in this tournament.  The other guys' wrestle and King is a sports entertainer in my opinion
  • This "free chance" does not work without a crowd really
  • This show does not feel like an hour, it is great
  • If you cannot do the slide around do not do it Kenny
  • I love that the one punch meant something but what is going to happen when this is over and everyone is throwing punches and not selling like the last few weeks?
  • A little too much sports entertainment in this match
  • I love the announcers have I said that yet?
  • The Ring of Honor bubble?  First time I remember them using that phrase and again makes it feel like a real sport!
  • First time for the judges
Another really good show.  These have become my favorite shows currently.  I wish I had more time to keep up on this weekly and not be a few weeks behind.  I am disappointed that Silas is gone honestly because he is my favorite but it is about the young blood I assume.  I cannot wait for the next show!

Classic Wrestling Review: 1994-01-29 Worldwide

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-03-28, We are finishing off January WCW shows with Worldwide.  Brian Pillman is on the show and Charlie Norris is taking on His Lordship Steven Regal!

  • Pillman just never did it for me as a babyface
  • Man I love this Vader
  • I like Cactus but man this team was just not good, and not because of Cactus!
  • Payne was just sloppy
  • I liked the future team of Jack and Sullivan better, it just fit better
  • It is interesting to see Terry Taylor on multiple shows this week.  I just do not remember him wrestling in 1994
  • I always like TT, I think he was his own worst enemy.  Plus he ended up with shit stain
  • Payne was in WCW off an on through 2000, he had a decent look aside from looking like Barry Goldberg/Jack Black
  • Sting was finally starting to do decent promos in 1994
  • If I could only watch one wrestler for the rest of life it would Steven Regal matches.  There honestly is none better in my opinion
  • Norris hit those ropes weird
  • Regal is just so damn smooth and makes it all look so damn good!
  • Look how good Regal is making Norris look
  • Norris never looked better than he did during this match, and that is because Regal is that damn good!
Not a great show aside from the Regal match.  He can make anyone, probably even me, look good in that ring.  Aside from that not worth checking out.  A very basic syndicated show.

Classic Wrestling Review: Saturday Night 1994-01-29

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-03-28, I am checking out the WCW after the recent Clash of the Champions.  We will see Col Parker in a chicken suit, Bagwell and Scorpio challenge for the Tag Titles and more!  Plus, and most importantly, we get the debut of Bobby Heenan!!
  • Bobby Heenan debuts and it is awesome!
  • Terry Taylor back in the ring?  That is not a bad thing
  • Look how great and smart Orndorff was, pushing the ropes into the ring
  • My version of this show is clocking in at 2 hours and 30 minutes so it is an extra-large edition of WCWSN!
  • Roma had an excellent power slam
  • Illegal is a sick bird....awesome!
  • Watts and Taylor could have been a decent team
  • I forget how great Austin was prior to his broken neck
  • The one thing that this era of WCW I do not like is that the enhancement matches started to get a little long
  • Boone was in good shape but was just a little small
  • This match was sloppy but I like that it looked like a fight
  • Pretty sure if I saw my name opposite of Vader I would run.  Rumour has it a lot of people did
  • Nelson could have hurt himself there, as he did not go up correctly
  • I love the Harlem Heat music!
  • Dustin was easily an MVP in 1994
  • The fans are digging this match
  • I like how much the Equalizer changed his look when he became Evad
  • I really REALLY miss the Brain
  • It is interesting that Stevie Ray is the one taking the beating
  • SPINARONI but it did not make sense
  • This match is really taking too long.  If they cannot beat these guys quickly how long will it take in Thunderdome?  A week?
  • I wish we could have seen a Dustin Rhodes vs. Booker T feud in their primes!
  • I had a birthday during that match, good grief it was long.  Good but way too long
  • Bob Cook was a great enhancement talent
  • Jungle Jim not so much
  • The Thesz Press was just awful
  • I love that Bobby accidentally called him Big Boss Man
  • I love that this is extremely embarrassing for Col Rob
  • The fans are absolutely loving this!!
  • Two of my favourites, Eaton and Boss Man
  • Sadly they will not mention their history
  • The best punch in the history of the profession, Bobby Eaton
  • Much like the 6 man earlier, this is taking too long.  I love Bobby Eaton but he is not a top talent at this point
  • Look how Bobby took the Boss Man Slam, made it look vicious
  • Couldn't be Gordon, he is walking straight!  I love Bobby!
  • Both of these guys were underrated performers, especially Henry O. Godwinn
  • I love that Bobby is going to tell us why he left the WWF....but only on the hotline!
  • How many people in this audience were plants?  That guy in the shirt and tie seems like it
  • Missy does not look happy
  • Much better tights on Bagwell and Scorpio then at the Clash
  • Scorpio makes the Nasty look amazing on offence or defence, it is great
  • Bagwell has a great punchable face
  • How does a splash on the arm work or hurt anyone but the splashee?
  • Good grief Scorpio hit hard on the apron!
  • Notice Sags did the "tag" sound?  That is why they were a great classic team
  • Then Knobbs did it, love it!  I miss real tag team wrestling
  • Bagwell did throw a good punch back then, he got lazier it seems as he went further in his career
  • Bagwell screwed his finisher up!

A really good show with all good matches, most too long, but all good.  I know people didn't love WCW at this point storyline-wise but the performers were all good to great and many would go on to be mainstays in the WWF for some time.  I think that the main thing was the lack of pacing but overall a good show and worth checking out if you have the time...and let us be honest we all have time to kill right now!
