1994-02-12 WCW Saturday Night

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, August 29, 2020 I am going back once again to 1994 and checking out WCW Saturday night from February 12th.  We find out if Flair is going to man up and fight Vader.  Johnny B. Badd challenges Rick Rude for the big gold belt and more!
  • Bockwinkle was a great commish!  Perfect for the role
  • Why would anyone cut Missy's hair like that?
  • CLUBBERING!!!
  • Why did anyone think Steele was going to be a star?
  • He has boots on now!
  • Turner and Fonda there?
  • Worst finisher EVER!  I would take the knuckle to the head from Slaughter over this
  • Do you think Jane gave a damn about this show or Ted?
  • I do not remember Terry Taylor wrestling at this point in his career
  • Why is the Patriot getting a title shot in his debut?  I mean I love the Patriot but seriously?
  • Has anyone sold better than Regal?
  • Regal does the drop toe differently and is so believable
  • I wonder if this Ryzing guy will do anything in pro wrestling....
  • Really nice Tiltawhirl backbreaker
  • It is so weird that Tony calls Heenan "Bob"
  • Why is Anderson teaming with Watts a week fore his TV Title Match?
  • Erik Watts would be a star nowadays
  • Dear lord did you see how high Roma was!
  • Arn got a little cutsie in this match
  • Sonny needs to run away now
  • And he is going to be unbias on Superbrawl?  HE SHOULD BE FIRED!
  • Why would Steamboat skin the cat?  Hit the floor, get the DQ win and walk away!
  • The Barney Fife of WCW!
  • I think Sasha Banks needs to remember Ray Traylor is the only BOSS!
  • I wonder how good Rude would have been in an NXT coach type role
  • Rude with a leapfrog!  I do not remember him doing that often
Another great show!  Slightly too long at times, probably should have skipped the Vader interview and the Rhodes/Pillman interview but all really good matches.  Sure I could say things about the Steele match but it was short and it should have been!  Two big debuts, one for WCW for the next few years and one for the future.  Plus maybe Johnny B. Badds best match of his career!

Classic Wrestling: 1994-02-12 Worldwide

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-09-21, I am checking out the Feb. 12th 1994 edition of WCW Worldwide.  We are on the doorstep to Superbrawl.  Will Vader be in action?  Will Flair be around?  I think we should go find out!
  • I think Travis & Thames, the Southern Posse, go on to be Disorderly conduct but I am not 100% sure
  • They are big guys
  • I think this and the Bagwell with the Patriot is Bagwell at his peak in the ring
  • What is up with that slow count?  Good grief!
  • Man how great was Scorpio?  That, I think it was called the tumbleweed, was amazing
  • Who dressed Missy?  They should be fired!
  • Oh JBB!
  • ITS BARRY GOLDBERG!
  • Payne barely got over Ricky there, strange as he is usually solid in the ring, as far as we have seen them
  • Uggg, that was stupid, stupid into the face camera shot during the match
  • Weekly Regal match and I am excited!
  • A perfect drop toe hold, I miss Regal in the ring
  • I love William distracting the ref in a usual way, it is the little things that they do
  • LOVE IT!  Regal and Sir William were perfect together
  • That was a stiff-looking knee from Sags!
  • Weird cut right there as Lorenzo came in
  • Kinda stiff on Lorenzo the entire time he was in the ring!
  • JBB gets to have two interviews?
  • It is weird to hear Harlem Heat called Kane and Kole, even though I know they started that way
  • No such thing as quiet when it comes to Michael Hayes as well; or so I hear
  • Did he really go over the top or did Stevie Ray screw up?
  • Nope, the replay shows over the top!
A decent show.  A good Regal match albeit short.  But the psychology that Regal and William use was so good and entertaining.  A good main event until the end and it got a little sloppy but Booker and JBB were still kind of green at the time.  Overall a nice syndicated show, nothing earth shattering was going to happen but it was good.

1994-02-12 WCW Pro

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you found this entry. Today, 2020-08-17, I am getting in my way back machine to go to WCW Pro from the 12th of February 1994.  I have no idea what is going to be on the show so I think we should just jump right into it!
  • Ah yes Flair and Vader and the bait and switch and bait again for the match
  • Two very underrated guys here, Badd and Rogers
  • If you do not follow Rogers on Twitter you should but it is NOT safe for work or young children!
  • Both of these guys are fantastic and such great characters
  • Its too bad Mero could not get a character in WWF that worked because he could have been a star I think
  • Another guy that I think we looked down on back in 1994 but today would be a star.  Roma looks good and is smooth in the ring, but he was just average when he was active.  What does that say about this generation?
  • Kendall is a little goofy looking
  • Roma was just a generation too soon
  • I always like Nasty Ned on these enhancement matches
  • And Mick is Mick, how can you not like him!
  • What is Payne wearing?
  • Some miscommunication there between Mick and Tony....or Tony sandbagged him!
  • I wonder if there are recordings of the old WCW Hotline, I would love to hear them
  • 5 really strong wrestlers and Frankie who is that not bad at all!
  • I do not understand how Brad was not a star at this point, just makes no sense!
  • Orndorff went for a drop kick?
  • Think about it, four of the six guys in this match should be in any Hall of Fame!
  • Is Rude the perfect looking man to be a pro wrestler?  Tall, tan, muscular and so well proportioned.  As someone to draw a pro wrestler and it is Rude
  • So weird it is Brad that is doing the selling most of the time
  • I love that Terry just explained why Brad has been in the ring so much
  • Look how happy Rude is in the corner!
A repeat show from Worldwide "last week" but all good matches.  WCW and SMW are the highlights of 1994 6 weeks in.  ECW and WWF (minus the Rocket King) need to step up damn it!

RESULTS
  • Recap:  Vader & Ric Flair (WCW World Champion)
  • Johnny B. Badd def. Rip Rogers
  • Paul Roma def. Kenny Kendall
  • Superbrawl Control Center:  Steve Austin (US Champion)/Rick Rude (International Champion)/Paul Orndorff & Sting/Dustin Rhodes/Brian Pillman
  • WCW Flashback
  • Cactus Jack/Maxx Payne def. Nasty Ned/Tony Mella via Submission
  • Steve Austin (US Champion)/Rick Rude (International Champion)/Paul Orndorff def. Mark Starr/Frankie Lancaster/Brad Armstrong

1994-02-05 WCW Worldwide

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-07-02, I am going back to 1994 and checking out WCW Worldwide from February 5th.  I am not sure what we shall see but lets go find out!
  • It is JOHNNY B BADD!
  • Rip Rogers; the only man that swears on twitter more than I do
  • Rogers always had a lot of facial work when working
  • I think Rogers just checked Badds oil
  • Hayes could talk...no you did not always know what he was saying...but he said it so damn good
  • Single match for Roma this week
  • Kendall is weird, almost always has his knees bent, it is odd
  • Billy is a BIG boy
  • It is odd to have Hayes as a good guy, strangely I do not think it will last long
  • Ned is a big boy
  • What is up with Paynes gear?
  • That took come strength to get Tony up and over with a suplex
  • Why was Orndorff going for dropkick
  • Is Brad the best wrestler to never get a real run?
  • Rare to see Rude headbutt like Jesse said
  • Starr throws a hell of a dropkick
A decent show.  No match really stood out other than the six-man.  It shows that WCW had some great enhancement talent.  Guys that make the stars look great.  Overall nothing really worth checking out, but that is what WCW Worldwide was.  Until next time abyssinia!

RESULTS
  • Johnny B. Badd def. Rip Rogers

1994-02-05 WCW Saturday Night

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today we are going back to 1994 and the first Saturday Night of February, the 5th.  I am not sure what is on the slate for the show but we are heading to Superbrawl and the Thunderdome.  Will we hear from Vader?  What about Flair?  Lets find out!
  • I do love the robot arm for some reason.  Makes me think of my youth probably
  • I love Bobby's suits, especially the red and blue ones
  • Tom Burton had a solid body, wonder if he would have been more successful in the territories...or was he back in the day for that matter
  • Steamboat was so smooth in the ring.  Too bad the injury and his wife kept him down
  • It does not pay to be a friend of Ric Flair's
  • I miss the old control centers with Mean Gene
  • I feel so bad for Tugboat, thought he was going to get a big push and then he literally ran into a wall
  • Do you think Mark Starr was under contract at this point or just a weekly payoff
  • Also does Starr look like Joe Piscopo or is it just me?
  • Was this the best shape Uncle Fred was in during his runs with WWF & WCW?
  • How long are both of Pretty Wonderful going to be in the ring together?
  • When was the last time you saw an atomic drop?
  • It does look like Fred has a halter top on!
  • Really nice dropkick by Starr
  • The only person who does a better piledriver is Lawler
  • I hate good guy Double A
  • Tony is wrong, Regal is the BEST TV Champion
  • Prettiest spinebuster of all time!  Maybe my favorite move of all time
  • You have a Magnum PI rip off and a Barry Goldberg rip off taking on Cobra Sting and some other guy in this match
  • It is interesting that Cobra Sting was able to get several gimmicks, did he have pictures of Dusty Rhodes or Eric Bischoff
  • Tango also looked a lot like the Tiger King!
  • The exact picture of a professional wrestler, Ravishing Rick Rude
  • I honestly do not remember Taylor wresting at this point.  I remember the few 1993 WWF appearances but not WCW in 1994
  • They are very smart at making TT look strong here since they are bringing him back in as a wrestler at this point
  • I always hated Austin's WCW music, did not fit him
  • This will probably not be a great match, especially since EVAD was not a great performer
  • A hip toss from Boss?  That is different
  • At least they made it quick!
  • Is Regal the most underrated wrestler?  Well maybe his future (at this point) partner Bobby Eaton is
  • Regal makes everything look painful, which is the point!
Sorry I got sucked into that main event.  I could watch Regal all day long every day I think!  Overall a really good show.  They did a lot to advance the Flair & Vader storyline.  They set up a grudge match between Vader and Steamboat as well.  Just a really good show and it shows that from an in ring perspective WCW might have been putting out the best shows in 1994 thus far.

RESULTS
  • Recap:  Ric Flair (WCW Champion)/Vader
  • Segment:  Sir William & Steven Regal (TV Champion)
  • Ricky Steamboat def. Tom Burton via DQ
  • Segment:  Ricky Steamboat/Vader & Harley Race
  • Superbrawl Control Center
  • Interview:  Nick Bockwinkel/Ric Flair (WCW Champion)
  • Paul Roma/Paul Orndorff def. Uncle Fred/Mark Starr
  • Interview:  Paul Roma & Paul Orndorff & The Assassin
  • Arn Anderso def. Buddy Lee Parker
  • Interview:  Nick Bockwinkel
  • Thunder & Lightning def. Bull Payne/Ricky Tango
  • Interview:  Rick Rude (International Champion)
  • Steve Austin (US Champion) def. Terry Taylor
  • The Boss def. The Equalizer
  • Interview:  Nick Bockwinkel/Ric Flair (WCW Champion)
  • Interview:  Vader & Harley Race
  • Sting def. Steven Regal (TV Champion)

Classic Wrestling Review: 1994-01-27 Clash of the Champions

Good morning, good afternoon, Good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-03-26, we are going back to 1994 and the end of January for the Clash of the Champions!  Ric Flair and Sting take on Vader and Rick Rude.  Plus the match I am waiting for, Dustin Rhodes takes on favorite Steven Regal.  Let us go to the ring....
  • BOB HEENAN IS HERE!  BEST DAY OF WCW EVER!!!
  • I love that Bobby comes out with his classic one-liners, I know who the Assassin is....the guy in the mask
  • I think I say this ever WCW show they are on, but why was Roma not a bigger star?  Has to be the attitude in the back right?
  • Those trunks on Scorpio & Bagwell were just awful!
  • Nick Patrick was WAY out of position there
  • Why would Orndorff go to the top?
  • Wait...that finished Roma off?  Strange finish
  • Ah there was an object in the knee pad, I missed that till the replay
  • Weird they came back right on action, no intros or anything
  • I always liked Ice Train, especially later on as MI Smooth
  • Oh man I love Austin with is Southern Accent
  • This is the match I was looking forward to!
  • I love that Sir William is out there keeping track of the time
  • I would pay to see this match today, they would be 10 times better than just about anything put on TV this week
  • I do not understand why are none of the announcers wearing masks?
  • I love that Bobby could do the serious type announcing and then talk about thumbing both eyes
  • Bobby popped Gordan twice thus far
  • This is why it was great to have Regal as TV champion.  Regal and Anderson were the best at making these matches
  • THAT IS ILLEGAL!  Closed fists
  • Regal knows what he is doing, he is keeping Rhodes off guard
  • HE HIT SIR WILLIAM!!!  THAT IS DISGUSTING!
  •  It is weird that they took Tony out of the booth for Gordan
  • MMMM, Missy Hyatt!!
  • I do love that Cactus clothesline over the top
  • Payne does look like Cousin It!
  • Not a great match, but what you expect with three of these men
  • Missy better get some shots
  • Those fans were booing Pillman winning?
  • I love that Parker could wrestle like both a wrestler or a manager, he is woefully underrated
  • What is that big hick doing getting involved?!
  • How entertaining was Austin back at this point
  • WTF?  THAT WAS A THREE COUNT!
  • This is maybe my favourite version of Vader, that 1993-1995 Vader.  The best shape and still had that killer instinct.
  • It is a shame Rick Rude got hurt in the near future of 1994, I think he could still be going otherwise
  • Were Vader's best matches in the state with Sting?
  • Name another big man that can take moves like that German like Vader did, I will wait
  • Was this the best time period of Sting?  The Sting Squadron through Hogan showing up
  • I love to hear Flair scream "Oh God" it was so perfect
  • A vicious DDT by Rude
  • Is Sting loopy here?  He seems really out of it
This was a good show with two great matches.  The two tag matches were okay.  The opening match was there and was really good when Pretty Wonderful was in charge.  Bagwell was still green and Scorpio is good at what he does.  Train and Simmons was just there and probably should not have been on TV yet.  Then you have the Regal/Rhodes match.  Like I said this could happen today and be better than most of the matches on TV.  Both of these men are top ten of all time in my opinion.  Then you had the Nastys match, which was what it was.  Exactly what you expect, sloppy and hard hitting and just the next chapter of their match match.  The chicken suit match was a storyline match but showed how great Parker was in the ring.  And the main event...man Vader was on fire and amazing.  Flair was in his prime.  Rude never looked better and Sting always stepped up with the right men in the ring with him.  Those four should have main event PPV against each other for years but we know who is coming in....brother.

RESULTS
  • Marcus Bagwell/Too Cold Scorpio def. Paul Roma/Paul Orndorff
  • Ron Simmons def. Ice Train
  • Interview:  Steve Austin (US Champion) & Col. Parker
  • Interview:  Nick Bockwinkel
  • Steven Regal (TV Champion) & Dustin Rhodes went to a Time Limit Draw for the Title
  • Interview:  Aaron Neville
  • Cactus Jack/Maxx Payne def. Brian Knobbs/Jerry Sags (WCW Tag Team Champions)
  • History:  Brian Pillman & Steve Austin/Col Parker
  • Brian Pillman def. Col. Parker in a Chicken Suit Match
  • Sting/Ric Flair (WCW World Champion) def. Rick Rude (WCW International Champion)/Vader in an Elimination Match

1994-01-29 WCW Pro

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-06-26, I am checking out the Jan. 29th 1994 episode of WCW Pro.  I know these are a little out of order but it as I get them at times!  We have Johnny B. against Slazenger, Jim Steele in action and The Boss, Ric Flair and Sting against Ron Simmons, Steve Austin and Rick Rude from Saturday Night.  Enough talk lets get to the ring!

  • Two underrated guys here
  • The fans into JBB
  • That was a quick match and sadly JBB kind of screwed up the finish
  • This is the Vader we should have got in WWF.  Imagine if we had!
  • MVP of WCW in 1994 Dustin Rhodes in the ring.  Throw in Regal and JBB and you had the men who carried the company in my opinion
  • So this match will go 20 or so minutes and go 50-50 right?  Oh wait this is not 2020 my bad
  • Another good showing for Dustin
  • Surprised that Steele is not barefoot
  • The Thesz Press is the WORST finisher ever
  • If I was Al I would...well I would run
  • Vader was a monster at this point.  Every time I see him here I think about what Vince should have done with him
  • All six of these guys are in the HOF so think about the talent!
  • I have said before how much I like Ray Traylor and this might be him as this best in the ring
  • Same with Sting and Austin honestly
  • If you had to draw what a wrestler looked like you would draw Rick Rude I think
  • Fans want Sting, interesting that it is not flair.  But then again Flair as a face just never really worked
  • Love the drop toe hold by Simmons and that Solie actually mentioned it
  • A sunset flip by Boss?  The first time ever for that?
A decent show.  Nothing special and matches we have seen before but all decent matches.  The only thing I would say to hunt down would be the Vader match because he is so physical!

RESULTS
  • Johnny B. Badd def Tex Slazenger
  • Interview:  Vader & Harley Race
  • Dustin Rhodes def. Rick Tango

Classic Wrestling: 1994-01-22 WCW Pro

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you found this entry.  Today, 2020/06/20, I am going back in time and catch up with the January 22nd WCW Pro which is new to my collection so it is a little out of order.  Let's go to the ring!

  • Larry and Gordan as hour hosts here, nice
  • I wonder if the Original Sheik sued this Sheik
  • The Sheik is an ugly man!  Looks like a serial killer
  • How great are Regal and Dundee
  • I do not know why but I think Ron was a better a heel till the end as the APA
  • A young Scotty Riggs is one of the things that make me smile watching these old 94 shows because we get to see him grow
  • I miss these kinds of matches to grow talent. Now Studd would have kicked out of all those moves and it would have gone 25 minutes
  • Wow J.D. has quite the beer gut and his gear really shows it off
  • How was Scorpio not a bigger star?  He would be the man now if he came along
  • Man the fans loved this team and the ladies loved Bagwell.  Now they can buy a night with him!
  • I always found a fit guy doing a splash weird verse a big man like One Man Gang doing it.  Seems weird for Bagwell but right for Gang
  • This match is a little long in the tooth at this point.  Okay a lot long in the tooth
  • Here is one of the highlights of WCW 1994 Dustin Rhodes
  • It is weird to think that the Gambler would probably be a major star now and considered big!
  • Sadly a quick match for Dustin after that long tag match
  • How did Dustin get to the back so quickly?
  • How great were these two?  How is Pillman not in the HOF?
  • I love that finish but when was the last time you saw someone bodyslam someone back into the ring?
Another good show.  I know WCW and WWF were in their dark times at this point but I really like WCW in 1994 and WWF had good things as well.  Not much to say other than it was a fun show to watch!

RESULTS
  • Cactus Jack/Maxx Payne def. Bob Cook/The Sheik via Submission
  • Interview:  Steven Regal (TV Champion) & Sir William
  • Ron Simmons def. Scott Studd
  • Superbrawl Control Center:  Vader & Harley Race/Rick Rude & Paul Orndorff & Steve Austin (US Champion)

  • Marcus Bagwell/Too Cold Scorpio def. Pat Rose/J.D. Wolfe
  • Dustin Rhodes def. The Gambler
  • Interview:  Dustin Rhodes & Sting & Brian Pillman
  • Brian Pillman def. Steve Austin (US Champion)

Classic Wrestling Review: 1994-01-22 WCWSN

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-02-13, we are going back in time to 1994 to watch the Jan 22nd edition.  We are building to the Clash of the Champions and I am sure we will hear from Flair and Sting at least.  Enough talk its time to build that WCWSN cyborg!
  • I love this version of Missy, I think I say that every time we see her
  • Why is Missy wearing jeans, it looks weird
  • They are really letting Starr shine
  • CLUBBERING!!!!
  • If it taking the Nastys this long to beat Oates and Starr they have no chance against Cactus and Maxx
  • Listen to the crowd!  They are hot to trot!
  • He is on every show, it is like his dad in charge or something!
  • Seriously I would have Dustin on every show too because he is one of the best they have
  • Why is Dustin getting 15 minutes?  TV Title time limit is supposed to 10.  Obviously, someone is out against his Lordship
  • Another great Rhodes match!
  • He does NOT speak for me Mean Gene
  • TC was a hell of a bumper
  • Ron Simmons is the mystery partner!
  • We will see Ron Simmons with a cigar a lot in the future
  • Is Steel trying to be Jimmy Snuka?
  • Look at Bob's hair!
  • The Thesz Press is a horrible looking move.  I mean...um....well it looks like they are having sex!
  • Really?  Vader is talking about Flair's wife?
  • Burton and Scorpio were not in sync there
  • Was Austin drunk?  He was making weird faces during the entrance but also during he interview earlier
  • What is up with the good guys and their weird long-delayed entrance
  • That was the highest reverse atomic drop I have ever seen by Rude and the Boss!
  • I think the way the Boss went over the top is one of my favorite bumps
  • Sting with a Ron Simmons style powerslam to the man himself
Strangely as I went to post this I did not put any notes of my thoughts for the show so it is just the results!

RESULTS
  • Brian Knobbs/Jerry Sags (WCW Tag Team Champions) def. Ron Oates/Mark Starr

Classic Wrestling: 1994-01-15 WCW Worldwide

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today I am going back to 1994 once again to check out WCW Worldwide from January 15th.  Being a syndicated show who knows who or what we will see so let us get to it!
  • FLAIR VS. EATON!  YES PLEASE!
  • Did Bobby always look the same?  He basically does now!
  • Why would the World Champion open the show?
  • It was always strange that Nick Patrick was as tall or taller than some of the wrestlers
  • Both guys have kept trying the pinfalls after the other raised the shoulder.  Because they are trying to WIN the match not do a bunch of moves
  • There is that Eaton right hand, the best in the business
  • Babyface Flair is so weird
  • Why would Eaton go for the knee knowing it could end up hurting you for the Figure Four?
  • It is weird that some 20 plus years later Flair and Fifi get married
  • It is so weird to hear them as other names other than Booker T and Stevie Ray
  • I hope Harlem Heat returns to fight the Revival.  Just one more time against the best team in wrestling today
  • Worst theme music ever!
  • This in the ring camera work sucks
  • It is almost vertigo-inducing
  • Here comes the Stinger!  I wonder what kind of star he would have been had he gone to WWF at some point
  • I wish Sting would have gone to WWE instead of TNA so we could have got some of those dream matches like Sting vs. Taker, Sting vs. Triple H, Sting vs. Orton, things like that when he could still go
  • Young Fat Man used to love some of those Hard Copy stories like Sexy Swimsuits
  • Four Hall of Famers in this main event
  • For years I said Randy Orton had the perfect wrestlers body....that is because I forgot about Rick Rude in 1992-1994.
  • THAT IS A DQ!  What is wrong with Randy Anderson!!
  • It was always interesting how into the matches the fans were when they were at Disney
  • A belly to belly from Rude?  That is a first I think for Rude, at least for me seeing
  • I loved Rick Rudes trunks over the years
  • There was no finish?  Weird
A GREAT Show with two fantastic matches in the Flair and the tag match.  This is the best show of 1994 thus far easily.  Both of these matches are worth hunting down and checking out!

RESULTS
