1994-02-12 WCW Saturday Night

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, August 29, 2020 I am going back once again to 1994 and checking out WCW Saturday night from February 12th.  We find out if Flair is going to man up and fight Vader.  Johnny B. Badd challenges Rick Rude for the big gold belt and more!
  • Bockwinkle was a great commish!  Perfect for the role
  • Why would anyone cut Missy's hair like that?
  • CLUBBERING!!!
  • Why did anyone think Steele was going to be a star?
  • He has boots on now!
  • Turner and Fonda there?
  • Worst finisher EVER!  I would take the knuckle to the head from Slaughter over this
  • Do you think Jane gave a damn about this show or Ted?
  • I do not remember Terry Taylor wrestling at this point in his career
  • Why is the Patriot getting a title shot in his debut?  I mean I love the Patriot but seriously?
  • Has anyone sold better than Regal?
  • Regal does the drop toe differently and is so believable
  • I wonder if this Ryzing guy will do anything in pro wrestling....
  • Really nice Tiltawhirl backbreaker
  • It is so weird that Tony calls Heenan "Bob"
  • Why is Anderson teaming with Watts a week fore his TV Title Match?
  • Erik Watts would be a star nowadays
  • Dear lord did you see how high Roma was!
  • Arn got a little cutsie in this match
  • Sonny needs to run away now
  • And he is going to be unbias on Superbrawl?  HE SHOULD BE FIRED!
  • Why would Steamboat skin the cat?  Hit the floor, get the DQ win and walk away!
  • The Barney Fife of WCW!
  • I think Sasha Banks needs to remember Ray Traylor is the only BOSS!
  • I wonder how good Rude would have been in an NXT coach type role
  • Rude with a leapfrog!  I do not remember him doing that often
Another great show!  Slightly too long at times, probably should have skipped the Vader interview and the Rhodes/Pillman interview but all really good matches.  Sure I could say things about the Steele match but it was short and it should have been!  Two big debuts, one for WCW for the next few years and one for the future.  Plus maybe Johnny B. Badds best match of his career!

Classic Wrestling Review: 1994-01-22 Worldwide

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry. Today, 2020-02-22, we are going back to 1994 once more to check out the January 22nd edition of WCW Worldwide!  We are going to see HOGAN in action for the first time in 1994....well his brother Randy Hogan.  Too Cool and Marcus Bagwell are here.  The Nastys are in action as are the Cole Twins and others.  So enough chit chat lets go down to Disney and the spinning ring!
  • The Godwinns on the way to the ring
  • Seriously what kind of tattoo is that that Brian James has?
  • Plus with his hair like that he looks so much like his daddy Bullet Bob
  • The Godwinns are a guilty pleasure of mine, I always like them either as hog farmers or the Texicans as The Body says
  • Why are the people in the background doing the Public Enemy wave?
  • It did not look like Sandlin did not help with that suplex
  • Is it weird that Sting took his new finisher from a lower mid-card tag team in WCW?  I am sure others did the move but the first people I saw do it was this duo
  • I never did like Pillman's interviews
  • They decide to recap this feud?  Z-Man and DDP?
  • Poor Erik, never got a chance because of his name.  He was not bad but pushed way too quickly by daddy
  • Uggg, I hate that underhook arm drag
  • That STF looks as good as Cena's....not sure if that is a good or bad thing
  • The Cole Twins just never clicked did they?
  • Really?  That is their finish?
  • Where is Missy...oh there she is...how did I miss those....er....her
  • The Nastys are just that are they not?  I wonder how much working was done with them back in the day
  • Look at that old lady dance!
  • Jesse with quite a few AWA references
  • Wait....they just did the Cole Twins finisher!  Did they not watch the other matches?
  • That suplex was not quite perfect!  BAM!
  • THERE HE IS!  THE NOT IMMORTAL HOGAN!!
  • Why did they bill him from LA and not Venice Beach?
  • Dear lord look at that strength by Vader!
  • HOGAN KICKED OUT!  WATCH OUT FOR THE BOOT VADER!
  • HOGAN KICKED OUT AGAIN!
  • Interesting, it was not quite the moonsault
  • Why is Flair in the back?
  • Wait....Fifi is there?  But Mean Gene just teased on the Hotline that Fifi had disappeared
  • Ummm, the World does not have corners Naitch!
A very good show this week minus the Cole Twin match.  Sorry they were just very basic.  It shows that the 1994 WCW Roster had amazing tag teams.  Also, is this the best we ever saw Vader?  That 1992-mid 1994 Vader was amazing.  He could move, he could talk, you had Harley out there with him.  I would love to pluck that Vader and put in here in 2020 and let him be him.  Damn that would be amazing with some of the athletes we have now in wrestling!  Overall nothing to seek out but the Vader match is fun because it is Hogan ;)

RESULTS

Classic Wrestling: 1994-01-15 WCW Saturday Night

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today I am checking out the January 15th 1994 edition of WCW Saturday Night.  I believe we will see Steve Austin against Brian Pillman tonight if I remember correctly.  Beyond that, we are still building Ric Flair and Vader in rematches so it should be a good show.  Enough of my "talking" and let us get to the show!

  • I do not know why but I love this "building" of a wrestler entrance for a wrestling show
  • Wait, Erik Watts is a rising star for over two years now?
  • Jesse Ventura was still doing WCWSN at this point?
  • They are in the wrong corners!  It is weird
  • That was weird, Orndorff had no idea that Scorpio is going for a drop-down because of how high he jumped
  • Orndorff just used Austin's finisher, it was a weird time in WCW
  • I recently found out that Roma is the head trainer of a wrestling school.  Re-watching these matches makes me think he would be a hell of a trainer.
  • I wonder if they sweetened the crowd noise because the fans are really into this tag match
  • Looked like Orndorff should have been knocked off the apron.
  • The future Scotty Riggs in the enhancement role again.  It would be another year or so before he became an American Male
  • I always thought Ron was better as a heel.  I think it is that angry look he has
  • While it is easy to relate to Simmons story, growing up and whatnot, it is hard to relate to being such an amazing athlete.  Some people will resent that
  • Good grief Ron Simmons music was AWFUL!
  • Strangely I always enjoyed Ice Train.  I am actually surprised WWE never picked him up because of his size and charisma
  • Not the best sell job by the Train but I still like him!
  • The only bad thing about Rhodes at this point in his career was his hair, it was horrible!
  • How did WCW get away with using the Sheik name I wonder
  • Bob Cook is bigger than I remember, he is as big as Cactus
  • I wonder why and who thought Cactus and Maxx was a good team.  Probably their Similar brawling style
  • Mick was not quite the master on the mic yet at this point was he
  • It is too bad that Erik had the Watts name because he was not bad in the ring but never stood a chance with his dads name, kind of like David Flair
  • Here comes my favourite of all time!  Every wrestler should study this man to see the master do it.  How is he not in the Hall of Fame?
  • I do not know if it is Watts is a good performer or Regal could have a good match with anyone
  • I love that Watts is focused on the STF, makes perfect sense
  • I love the European Uppercut
  • It is the subtle things that Regal does, like trying to get his arms up when Watts was coming off the top
  • Its JBB vs. PIG....well the future PIG when he becomes a Godwinn
  • Both of these guys are underrated I think.  Dennis Knight got stuck with that naked Mideon gimmick and will always be remembered for that most likely
  • JBB needs himself a tag team partner
  • NO NOT THE MASK!  Shanghai is too ugly to show the face!
  • Austin's knee is hurt and that scumbag Pillman will not let him back up!
  • Why would Pillman yell out the move and then go to the floor?
  • WHERE IS THE REF?!?!
  • Did the ref forget how to count to 10?
  • What is up with the very unsmooth camera work?
  • It is so weird and smart that Jesse constantly brings up other sports personalities
  • This is actually a slower match than I would have thought but makes sense that Austin would want to slow things down
  • DEAR LORD DID YOU HEAR THAT CHOP!
  • Uggg, Johnny B. Badd's theme music is stuck in my head
Very good show.  I cannot really say anything bad about the show at all.  This is what WCW was good at, a very good solid show.  They did not have the HUGE star power that WWF had over the years but in the ring they were almost always better.  Good solid show worth checking out especially if you like Regal or Badd as both of them had great outtings.

RESULTS
  • Marcus Bagwell/Too Cold Scorpio def. Paul Roma/Paul Orndorff
  • Segment:  Brian Pillman

  • Dustin Rhodes def. The Gambler
  • Cactus Jack/Maxx Payne def. Bob Cook/The Sheik via Submission
  • Interview:  Cactus Jack & Maxx Payne
  • Steven Regal (TV Champion) def. Erik Watts for the Title
  • Johnny B. Badd def. Tex Slazenger
  • Interview:  Johnny B. Badd
  • Brian Pillman def. Steve Austin (US Champion)
