2020-02-01 ROW Review Ep 273

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening.....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-02-08, I am checking out my first ROW, Reality of Wrestling, show.  I do not know much about these shows or the stars of the show but if it is wrestling I am going to watch it so lets get to the ring!

• Two professional looking announcers....weird..I feel like one should be wearing a mask or something like that
• Is there a wrestler without a tattoo?
• Mantell looks like a pro wrestler I like it
• This already feels like pro wrestling at this point
• Mantell could be a star but both of these guys are solid in the ring
• Nice Alabama Slam!
• Good solid match.  I already like Mantell.  Very old school looking guy.
• I do not like this interview already, talking about God is not needed in wrestling
• However, Keith looks a little like Ice Cube
• Davidson looks goof with that mouthpiece
• I guess because it is Texas Keith wears that outfit
• The ring announcer and interviewer really like their zippers!
• The mouthpiece is stupid but there is something I like about Davidson
• What is Keith wearing?  Seriously?
• For an indy promotion this they both matches have been solidly performed and none of them are embarrassing 
• ITS BOOKER T!

Bad finish to the match but a solid show.  All four of the performers were solid.  I really like Davidson and Mantell as they both looked like old school wrestlers.  I will continue to check this out as I am seeing some future stars here especially Mantell!

Classic Review: 1994-01-17 Raw

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you find this entry!  Today, 2020-02-07, we are going back into the time machine to check out the Raw from January 17 1994.  I know that from MSG it is the Quebecers challenging the tag team champs 1-2-3 Kid and Marty Jannetty.  Besides that who knows so lets get to the ring!

• I love how you can barely understand Vince at times when he gets too excited
• Man I miss the Raw girls at time
• Crush?  Why is here there?
• Oh that is right Savage is in action tonight against IRS
• OWEN!  Its the not quite king yet Owen Hart
• Man I miss seeing the Rocket King in action every time I see the old shows with him
• Terry here is not a great performer at all.  That monkey flip was ugly with two g's
• It is taking Owne way too long to beat Austin here but I love it because I get to watch Owen
• I love the slight heel tones, great foreshadowing
• George South, one of the best enhancement talent around
• Watching these old shows show that it used to be made to look like a fight.  It was not all perfect and that is a good thing yet it did not look sloppy
• DO NOT SAY THAT WORD VINCE!
• How great was "Scared" Yokozuna.  Another man who left us way too early!
• Good grief did you see that Raw girl!  I would take them over the Nitro girls any day!
• The build of Big Daddy Cool has begun
• Two of my favorites here.  IRS is one of the best ever that just does not get talked about enough
• Crush is actually doing pretty good on commentary
• What is wrong with Savage?  Going after Crush for no reason
• What did you expect having him at ringside Vince, it is your own fault!
• Yeah sending out Bill Alfonso is the best route to stop Crush and IRS
• YES!  Yoko is going to end Savage before he can get to the Rumble

A good show here building to the Rumble.  Hot finish with a good brawl.  The only complaint I can see is that the two squash matches went a little too long.  I would cut each of those matches and maybe put in another match or an interview with Razor or something like.  The big thing I noticed is that everything looked good and like a fight.  It does not look like they are working together!  Until next time....Abyssinia!

2020-01-01 AEW Review

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this review.  We are going back to the first of the year and AEW Dynamite.  I know that we have the Elite in action but beyond that I do not know/remember so lets get to the ring!

• Taz is here!  That is awesome as I love me some Human Suplex Machine!
• What in the hell is this?  Is that a Cody "mask"?
• Are they trying to out WWE the WWE here?
• My god they are the reincarnation of WCW, they did not turn on the ring announcer mics
• We are five minutes in and the second WTF moment!  Wow
• Its Double A!  AWESOME!
• Head Coach of the Nightmare Family?  What in the blue hell does that mean?
• Is Aubrey the best ref in the business right now?  One of the few bright spots of AEW in my opinion
• Did they ever explain the weird face paint of Allin?
• Allin needs to put on probably 30 pounds to be believable in my opinion if he is going to be in the ring with people of star size
• I love Arn holding the paper up over his mouth like a real coach so no lip reading.  Excaliber talking about it is good
• I know other people out there, like my Cult Leader Jim Cornette, hate Excaliber but he does have great points at times.  But he does look really stupid in the mask
• I love that Arn just stared at Darby and did not back down because he is bigger then he is!
• I think the Diaster Kick is such an underrated move
• That modified Rings of Saturn looked very painful
• I do love the ramp in this arena.  Always loved it when WCW did that ramp too
• Rhodes?  Oh you are going to get AEW SUED!
• They really give Darby way too much offence, I know they are building the kid but not at Cody's expense
• I cannot wait to see the Snowpiercer series!
• Who do you think Arn is going to turn on Cody for?  Also, why did Dustin allow this partnership since Arn turned on Dustin years ago
• That is just stupid because would that help Darby
• Sorry JR but Cody did not get his knees up, I think he was supposed to but he did not
• How is Cody going to beat MJF if he cannot beat Darby with his finisher?
• Got his knees up that time!
• Took way too much for Cody to win
• Time for some Women's action
• Nyla Rose has put on some weight or her ring gear has changed
• Riho just looks awkward coming out, like a teen in their first play
• 30 seconds in and the monster of the division is already on her back?  Who is booking this!?
• Is this no DQ because its a four-way?  They did not say that
• Nyla and Shida just standing there looking....sigh
• Is Billy Corgan the official here?
• It was a knee not a guillotine Excaliber.  It was to the side of her head
• My god, that was not good, looked like it might have actually hurt Nyla
• Britt did not have that Hells Gate set up correctly 
• This is not the WWE women's division
• The Young Bucks are pissed in the back that their move was just used...SUPERKICK!
• Did JR just say Porn Wood?  Joking I know he did not
• Seriously?  I guess Nyla Rose is just a giant jobber like Mike Shaw in WWF
• Britt needs to have a glove on for the Lockjaw, I hope they do that in the future
• Wow, nothing like showing the cameraman in the shot WCW...er....AEW
• Look at Dustin tower over everyone

• What is with the hand holding?  I do not get it!

• Does every match have to go through a break with AEW?
• I feel like I have had a birthday during this show!
• I do have to say that JR seems to be having fun announcing
• Trent is a hell of a performer.  AEW does have some great performers 
• Implant buster!
• Why is Cassidy allowed to get in the ring?  
• Sammy has such a punchable face!
• Really?  The old here is a car if you join us gimmick?
• If it is registered to Moxley how is Chris driving it legally?
• Here comes the man who refuses to age Dustin Rhodes
• Did he just spank Sammy?
• Dustin has caught the do too much syndrome 
• Jake Hagger has the best contract ever!  Has yet to wrestle yet is on TV every week
• Seriously every match goes through a break!
• Ugly spinebuster by Dustin
• Seriously a Destroyer on the apron.  That should be a damn career-ending leaving the company move not a damn transition move
• I love MJF, he is never NOT in character.  Follow him on social media it is awesome
• This is the longer show ever!
• So what if MJF pees sitting down
• How great is MJF, is there a better heel around?  The answer is NO!
• How dumb is the name Wardlow
• Great they just played music over Luchasaurus
• Britt is turning heel!
• Why is Pac a bastard?
• Did Olivier dye his hair?
• Olivier should destroy Pentagon during that weird ritual
• Pentagon does not use the most psychology in the ring but I do really like him for some reason
• I hope his headband does not fall off, because he has an 8 head at this point!
• Fenix seems off here for some reason
• This is the choreographed section of our show sadly
• Is Pac the best athlete in AEW?
• Pac makes it look like an actual fight
• WTF, seriously?  This is stupid.  3 destroyers in 90 seconds and no finish
• Pentagon just watched Pac get a powerbomb so he could make the save.  Why not stop the powerbomb?
• Why were the Buck hugging in the ring?

The worst part of the show is that it looks so fake at times.  Look at the Women's match and the main event.  So often people are standing around waiting for something to happen.  MJF is the best performer in the business today hands down.  Cody and Dustin are right there as well.  Overall the show as....well there and really long.  Great athletes but it feels like a really long indy show at times.

1994-01-16 Main Event

Good morning, good afternoon good evening.....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Once again we are going into our time machine and checking out 1994.  This time the January 16th WCW Main Event.  We are going into the Clash of the Champions and tonight we will see guys like Ron Simmons, the Nasty Boys...who hold the tag team titles with the lovely Missy Hyatt, Diamon Dallas Page and others.  Lets get to the ring!

• I love angry Ron Simmons
• I feel like they should have just had Simmons destroy Angel
• I am surprised that Simmons never did any voice over work
• Is this the best Missy Hyatt ever looked?  I love the short hair
• I also think this is the best version of the Nastys.  Both guys were in decent shape and they had not started to breakdown yet
• Its weird, Knobbs does not have his usual elbow pad on
• Weird, they are doing a random DDP package mid-match
• 30 extra minutes this week?  Weird...TBS must have been short programming-wise
• Good grief, it is the Z-Man.  He is horrible on the mic!
• No why would it be Z-Man?  Top athletes sunshine, top athletes
• It is weird to think that the fans will make DDP one of the biggest stars ever in around three years
• How great is the body language of his lordship?
• For some reason, I do not see Mike as a winner here
• I cannot wait till I get to the Clash of the Champions and see Regal against Dustin!  Possibly a Match of the Year in my opinion
• How great is Regal at making you think the guy is going to win?  One of the best EVER!
• I did not understand this gimmick.  
• However, his finisher was MUCH better than that horrible bearhug slam
• Good grief this interview is AWFUL!
• Early Harlem Heat, gotta love them!
• Man Harlem Heat vs. a modern team like say The Revival would be amazing but what do I know!
• I like the noises that Cactus made in the ring, something that was different and strangely interesting
• Payne was one of those guys who were pushed I never quite understood.  Because he was big he got a shot?
• Do you think the Nastys will show up?
• Worst sunset flip ever!
• Man the fans loved Johnny!
• Wait...did Hayes and Badd ever actually team up?  Why would they get a title shot?
• Talk about a match of legends!
• Is Col. Parker the last of the great managers? I cannot think of another....I guess Corny was still around but a shell of himself in the WWF
• I recently heard that Vince McMahon wanted to bring Dustin in to face Hogan at Wrestlemania 9, the year before.  I wonder how that would have been as Dustin was one of the top 10 at that point
• For wanting to kill each other they are wrestling way too much instead of fighting in my opinion
• GOOD GOD LISTEN TO THOSE CHOPS!
• Rick Rude is a guy you do not hear guys talk about now and it is sad.  Take Rude's WCW run and you can learn SO much.  His matches with Sting, Dustin and Ricky Steamboat were amazing!
• Austin had a great snap mare kneedrop combo
• Well shit...

My copy of this show does not have a finish to the main event!  Doing a little research it appears other versions of this show did the same thing which is sad.  Overall another solid WCW show but it was just a down time in the company and wrestling in general.  Like always Badd and Regal and Rhodes stole the show!  How WWF did not steal all three is beyond me.  Nothing really worth going out of your way to check out but a solid show!

Classic Wrestling Review: 1994-01-16 Challenge

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  We are a week away from the 1994 Royal Rumble as we check out the January 16th Wrestling Challenge.  We have JR and Gorilla as our hosts so lets get to the ring!

• That bonza drop in the open looks brutal!
• Uggg, Dink is here, I hate little people, they creep me out
• Mike Bell was a nice enhancement talent.  I think they should have given him a few wins to make him a threat
• Walsh looks huge compared to Marko Stunt
• Walsh's head is HUGE!
• How great was Lord Alfreds delivery!  I also liked that he gave jabs at times
• Uggg, I hated good guy Doink, he was a great character with Matt Bourne playing him
• That was one creepy Doink poster....both of them!
• One of my favourite submissions that you just do not see very often
• Boogers music is still better than Shockmasters!
• Poor Mike Shaw and this gimmick
• Enter the Batcave!
• I hope Cory talked to his family before this because Yoko is going to squash him!
• How was Yoko so agile?
• Yoko did not even use the Bonza drop
• Look how young and different Scotty looks
• The Steiners are not long for the world in the WWF I do not think.  They do not make many more appearance or Wrestlemania 10
• This bulldog will break your neck!
• I bought the Sega CD just for Rage in the Cage!
• BEAT THE REDSKIN!  WOW!

A solid show but it shows the difference between WWF and WCW shows.  WWF had mostly squash matches while WCW shows always had good matches, at least one "Star vs. Star" match.  While I loved the squash matches it shows why WCW ended up overtaking WWF in my opinion.

Classic Wrestling: 1994-01-15 WCW Worldwide

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today I am going back to 1994 once again to check out WCW Worldwide from January 15th.  Being a syndicated show who knows who or what we will see so let us get to it!

• FLAIR VS. EATON!  YES PLEASE!
• Did Bobby always look the same?  He basically does now!
• Why would the World Champion open the show?
• It was always strange that Nick Patrick was as tall or taller than some of the wrestlers
• Both guys have kept trying the pinfalls after the other raised the shoulder.  Because they are trying to WIN the match not do a bunch of moves
• There is that Eaton right hand, the best in the business
• Babyface Flair is so weird
• Why would Eaton go for the knee knowing it could end up hurting you for the Figure Four?
• It is weird that some 20 plus years later Flair and Fifi get married
• It is so weird to hear them as other names other than Booker T and Stevie Ray
• I hope Harlem Heat returns to fight the Revival.  Just one more time against the best team in wrestling today
• Worst theme music ever!
• This in the ring camera work sucks
• It is almost vertigo-inducing
• Here comes the Stinger!  I wonder what kind of star he would have been had he gone to WWF at some point
• I wish Sting would have gone to WWE instead of TNA so we could have got some of those dream matches like Sting vs. Taker, Sting vs. Triple H, Sting vs. Orton, things like that when he could still go
• Young Fat Man used to love some of those Hard Copy stories like Sexy Swimsuits
• Four Hall of Famers in this main event
• For years I said Randy Orton had the perfect wrestlers body....that is because I forgot about Rick Rude in 1992-1994.  
• THAT IS A DQ!  What is wrong with Randy Anderson!!
• It was always interesting how into the matches the fans were when they were at Disney
• A belly to belly from Rude?  That is a first I think for Rude, at least for me seeing
• I loved Rick Rudes trunks over the years
• There was no finish?  Weird

A GREAT Show with two fantastic matches in the Flair and the tag match.  This is the best show of 1994 thus far easily.  Both of these matches are worth hunting down and checking out!

Classic Wrestling: 1994-01-15 WCW Saturday Night

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today I am checking out the January 15th 1994 edition of WCW Saturday Night.  I believe we will see Steve Austin against Brian Pillman tonight if I remember correctly.  Beyond that, we are still building Ric Flair and Vader in rematches so it should be a good show.  Enough of my "talking" and let us get to the show!

• I do not know why but I love this "building" of a wrestler entrance for a wrestling show
• Wait, Erik Watts is a rising star for over two years now?  
• Jesse Ventura was still doing WCWSN at this point?
• They are in the wrong corners!  It is weird
• That was weird, Orndorff had no idea that Scorpio is going for a drop-down because of how high he jumped
• Orndorff just used Austin's finisher, it was a weird time in WCW
• I recently found out that Roma is the head trainer of a wrestling school.  Re-watching these matches makes me think he would be a hell of a trainer.  
• I wonder if they sweetened the crowd noise because the fans are really into this tag match
• Looked like Orndorff should have been knocked off the apron. 
• The future Scotty Riggs in the enhancement role again.  It would be another year or so before he became an American Male
• I always thought Ron was better as a heel.  I think it is that angry look he has
• While it is easy to relate to Simmons story, growing up and whatnot, it is hard to relate to being such an amazing athlete.  Some people will resent that
• Good grief Ron Simmons music was AWFUL!
• Strangely I always enjoyed Ice Train.  I am actually surprised WWE never picked him up because of his size and charisma
• Not the best sell job by the Train but I still like him!
• The only bad thing about Rhodes at this point in his career was his hair, it was horrible!
• How did WCW get away with using the Sheik name I wonder
• Bob Cook is bigger than I remember, he is as big as Cactus
• I wonder why and who thought Cactus and Maxx was a good team.  Probably their Similar brawling style
• Mick was not quite the master on the mic yet at this point was he
• It is too bad that Erik had the Watts name because he was not bad in the ring but never stood a chance with his dads name, kind of like David Flair
• Here comes my favourite of all time!  Every wrestler should study this man to see the master do it.  How is he not in the Hall of Fame?
• I do not know if it is Watts is a good performer or Regal could have a good match with anyone
• I love that Watts is focused on the STF, makes perfect sense
• I love the European Uppercut
• It is the subtle things that Regal does, like trying to get his arms up when Watts was coming off the top
• Its JBB vs. PIG....well the future PIG when he becomes a Godwinn
• Both of these guys are underrated I think.  Dennis Knight got stuck with that naked Mideon gimmick and will always be remembered for that most likely
• JBB needs himself a tag team partner
• NO NOT THE MASK!  Shanghai is too ugly to show the face!
• Austin's knee is hurt and that scumbag Pillman will not let him back up!
• Why would Pillman yell out the move and then go to the floor?  
• WHERE IS THE REF?!?!
• Did the ref forget how to count to 10?  
• What is up with the very unsmooth camera work?  
• It is so weird and smart that Jesse constantly brings up other sports personalities 
• This is actually a slower match than I would have thought but makes sense that Austin would want to slow things down
• DEAR LORD DID YOU HEAR THAT CHOP!
• Uggg, Johnny B. Badd's theme music is stuck in my head

Very good show.  I cannot really say anything bad about the show at all.  This is what WCW was good at, a very good solid show.  They did not have the HUGE star power that WWF had over the years but in the ring they were almost always better.  Good solid show worth checking out especially if you like Regal or Badd as both of them had great outtings.

2020-02-07 Smackdown Review

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry!  Today, 2020/02/08, I am checking out last nights Smackdown!  I know there is a fatal four way to find out who is challenging Bayley next and we see Goldberg, the man, the myth, return to find out what is next for Billy Boy.  So lets get to it!

• SLOW-MO!  Gotta love Morrison and the slow-mo
• That is THE FINK!
• Once Upon a Time on the Dirt Sheet?
• I love that this is suppose to be hokey...but I feel like AEW would be serious about this like that weird Darby Allin segment or the Wardlow promos
• Really?  Lance Storm AND Johnny L?
• I mock the New Day but I still LOVE them
• Did that fan just steal popcorn from Big E?
• Really?  The Usos are getting involved?  WHY?
• I like that they thought the fans were going to chant with them but nope
• What is Ziggler wearing?  Did he raid Michael Hayes closet?
• Why do I hate the Usos so much?
• Still calling that the Fameasser huh?  
• Zig-Zag Spinebuster combo nice
• I think it is that the Usos are kind of sloppy in the ring
• 57 days away from Mania, that seems really quick
• ITS THE GODDESS!!
• What was Alexa looking at?
• Is that Daivari or Sonjay Dutt?
• I really hate good guy Elias
• First, the truck shows that Corbin video now they shut off Cory's mic.  It is a damn conspiracy against the King and his court!

• A female ref should never bully/touch a male competitor like that
• Good grief that is strength and a hernia waiting to happen!
• Reign looks like he lost weight but added bulk. he is looking really good tonight physically
• Wait, Goldberg is not there?
• I hope he says Cole is next!
• The Fiend?  Really?  Goldberg against the Fiend?

Lets start with the surprise win in the main event.  I am shocked...but that probably means Naomi will get the shot at Mania.  I did not like the opening segment.  Miz has good timing and Morrison does in the ring but on the mic with the other three, he seemed lost.  Then out comes the Usos.  Overall a fine show but this seemed to drag at times.  The Corbin/Reigns segment was bad and should have been cut as well.  I cannot say to watch this show.  It was there but nothing great.

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today I am going back to 1994 once again to check out USWA from January 15th.  No clue what is going on.  Lawler I am sure is around beyond that who knows so lets get to it!

Movie Review: Missing Link

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, with the Oscars nearly upon us (It is 2020-02-01 when I am watching this) it is time to watch one of the films nominated for the best-animated films, Missing Link.  It has a 6.7/10 with 13,999 reviews.  It stars Hugh Jackman, David Walliams, and Stephen Fry.  Lets go see if this is the missing link in animated flicks or just another hoax!

• I hate this style of animation
• WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!  If that is what Nessy looks like no wonder she stays hidden!
• This is one of the best-animated flicks of 2019?  Seriously?
• Of course, there are going to be some hijinks beyond just hunting Bigfoot

• Zach Galifianakis and Hugh Jackman must have had a ton of money-driven to their house

I do not have a lot to say about this but do not watch it.  It was awful.  It is no wonder why it lost 75 million dollars!  Chris Butler should never EVER be allowed to do anything on film ever!  

Movie Review: Jojo Rabbit

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, with the Oscars only a week or so away, the better half and I are watching Jojo Rabbit.  Up for Best Picture and best support actress for sure if not other awards.  IMDB has it rated at 8.0/10 with 69,007 registered votes.  It stars Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie and Scarlett Johansson.  I know very little about the flick so lets get to it!

• I LOVE THE OPENING!  Hitler and the Beatles are the perfect mashup
• Who knew Adlof was so funny acting
• I like that this is probably more like who Germany really was (and IMDB confirmed this)
• Wait...is this movie about Anne Frank
• My wife did not think the above joke was funny because she was in an attic, not a crawl space
• I KNEW IT WAS ABOUT ANNE FRANK!
• That girl cannot be a Jew though, no scales or serpent tongue or anything like that

Well that was...um....I do not know what to think about that honestly.  It had some comedy and some heartfelt pain.  It was good but oscar worthy I do not know but then again I do not know anymore what is oscar worthy.  I am glad I saw it as it was a good flick.  I give it a 7/10.  Worth checking out at some point if for nothing else the directors' performance of Adolf.  It also reminded me that Sam Rockwell is an excellent performer!

Classic Wrestling: 1994-01-15 Superstars

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this blog.  Once again we are going back to 1994 this time to January 15th and it is time for WWF Superstars.  Like most of these shows, I have no idea what I will be seeing so let us get to it!

• BOOGER!  I love booger!
• Seriously I love Bastion Booger/Mike Shaw
• Guys like Booger are what is missing in wrestling. Now we do not get massive guys like Booger we get midgets like Marko Stunt
• Vince McMahon and his YES...NO call on a near fall, I miss that
• I love that they keep teasing the body slam, such great old school stuff to make the slam mean something
• Wow Flexy did not move when Booger charged the post like you expect
• Is this the best version of Vince?  I think so
• How great was Gorilla Monsoons voice?  
• I cannot imagine having to face the Headshrinkers
• DEAR LORD WHAT A DOUBLE BACKDROP!
• Bad Barry Horowitz!  Best enhancement performer?
• Weird, that armdrag was from the wrong side by Tatanka or it looked really weird

• 1994, I get see Jim Cornette on two companies shows...and that is not a bad thing!

• The fans hated IRS but what a great performer.  I wonder why he never did any training...well that I know of

A fun show with lots of memories of this time.  It was weird to see Virgil in 1994 as I do not really remember him much on TV at this point.  I think he shows up at the rumble filling in for Booger but that was about it.  I also do not remember Luger vs. Booger but that was a fun old school TV match.  The interviews though, a cocky young Double J was great and seriously I said this recently on the SMW review but is there a better person on the mic than the leader of the Cult himself Jim Cornette?  Throw in classic Vince McMahon on commentary and I had fun!
