Movie Review: DC Vixen: The Movie

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you've come across this entry.  I am back after another brief absence with another movie review.  This time I'm checking out the Vixen: The Movie.  It stars Megalyn Echikunwoke, Stephen Amell and Katie Cassidy.  This is a continuation from a series of shorts last year...at least I think it is.  "Originally from Africa, Mari McCabe grew up an orphan after her parents were killed by local greed, corruption and wanton violence. But Mari refuses to succumb to the terrors surrounding ..."  I like most of DC's animated Universe so lets see if I continue to!

  • I'm pretty sure this is from last year shorts, the opening.  It is interesting that she is quicker then the fastest man alive
  • I wonder if this is just the shorts put together into a movie....
  • Yeah, now I'm almost 100% sure these are the shorts
  • I've seen this and I'm still confused on how Vixen's power works
  • Animation makes it so easy to do good disolves
  • Wow Cisco and Barry don't look even close to the show
  • I like the mask and cape comment
  • So is Ollie trying to kill her with his arrows?
  • Still don't get how she is faster than Flash
  • Kidnapping to Africa does sound bad, even if it is to find out ones background
  • I feel like I'm suddenly watching the Lion King, all I need is a farting warthog
  • How is she going to get back to Detroit?  Oh...guess we don't need to know that information
  • Yeah this isn't Star Wars brothers and sisters don't kiss here Ollie
  • Very weird outfit
  • Okay so half of the flick is from the TV shorts, nice
  • Shouldn't she have a mask or something?  You know people can figure out who you are otherwise...well then again it is DC and everyone knows everyone secret identity.
  • I just realized who Vixen's dad is, it is the dad from The Middle
  • Vixen's outfit is provocative....guess it is to distract people like her name
  • Yes, use the job and ex card, good idea Vixen
  • Where does Gorilla Grodd come in?
  • GOOD GRIEF THAT GORILLA JUST BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THAT GUY!!!
  • How to bullets constantly miss her?
  • Wait...did this just become Captain Planet?  Because...he is our hero!
  • Nice, Weather Wizard call back
  • What is Firestorm going to do against a Tsunami?
  • Oh...apparently just shoot it with fire
  • Yeah why does Cisco get to name the bad guys?  He is awful!
  • So she can dodge bullets but not lightning?
  • Too bad Detroit doesn't have a real superhero, it needs it!  Then again so does the world
  • Hugo Strange?  Nope
  • Wait...that stone gives him the power of fire?  They're all different?
  • Why turn into a cat when falling, why not...I don't know...a bird
  • How is she not burned?
  • Just boil the water and then get the totem...no...bad guys are so dumb sometimes
  • Yes guy who kidnapped me, help me...of course lets go see my sister, the one who tried to kill me
  • of course she lied to you!
  • She just sent the dogs to attack the cops?  GOOD GRIEF
  • So Cannery just gave away Arrow's identity, nice
  • There should be a LOT of steam
  • This is basically Devils Night in Detroit right?
  • They did a horrible job of making the characters look like their human counter parts
Well that wasn't horrible, I continue to like the DCAU.  Overall I'd give it a 7/10, you know my average.  That is slightly above the 6.5 on IMDB as of 8/25.

I like the voice acting throughout and honestly I don't have anything negative to say about the flick minus the fact that the animated characters have the live action voices but not their faces.  I feel that could have been better done but that is just cosmetic so to speak, didn't really hurt the flick.

The stories were good but you could tell it is just the series of shorts but together into a long form animated flick.  It'd be like putting several Batman the Animated series episodes together and calling it a movie.  Yes but no

Overall it is worth checking out if you like the DCAU/CW Universe.  It can be skipped as it doesn't do anything to further the CW Universe really.

Until Next time...Abyssinia!

Movie Review: Batman Bad Blood

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you're reading this.  Thank you for checking out yet another movie review by the Fat Man.  Today, 5/13/16, I'm checking out Batman Bad Blood.  Another animated DC Universe flick.  "Bruce Wayne is missing. Alfred covers for him while Nightwing and Robin patrol Gotham City in his stead. And a new player, Batwoman, investigates Batman's disappearance."  It stars Jason O'Mara, Yvonne Strahovski, Stuart Allan.  Lets check out...Bad Blood!
  • Well these guys are look interesting
Rejects from a costume party?  Bad Cosplayers?
  • Who is this?  Batgirl?  Batwoman?  Batlady?
  • Firefly?  Yep
  • A bad Batman?

  • Robin the Monk Wonder
  • Nightwing basically sexting while fighting...weird
  • How did they miss?  How do they always miss?
  • Well...that had to hurt
  • Lots of destruction....Robin sure knows how to party
  • This Batmobile design is weird
  • Ah Batwoman is the name, never guessed that.  I like Batlady better
  • How great is Ernie Hudsons voice?
  • So Mad Hatter knows Bruce Wayne is Batman?  Weird
  • Why even have secret identities?
  • They have Alfred very strange these days
  • They make this Batman not only brooding but an asshole which I'm not a huge fan of
  • Did Alfred....oh nope it is bad Batman....who knows where the Batcave is
  • Damian lets his emotions control him too much
  • Wait...so does Batwoman know who Batman is now
  • Well she does now!
  • Wait...is Fox's kid becoming Iron Man?  Sure looks that way to me
  • Did he tell his kid where it was?  What it was?
  • Are those nuns wearing masks?
  • And like that the bad bat is no more, anti-climatic
  • Oh good grief!
  • How do they always miss?
  • Batwing?  Is that name already taken?
  • How did Batwoman get her suit?
  • Nice Indiana Jones rip off
  • This Bat-Team kills a lot of people I've noticed
  • That'll give her daddy issues
  • They look like the Doctor Who Cybermen earpieces
  • I've never shot a gun and pretty sure I could hit something before these people do!
  • Is Alfred going to fight?
  • Why does the Mad Hatter look like a Leprechaun?
  • GOOD GOD ALFRED!
  • Who needs the Justice League, Gotham as the Bat Swarm at this point now they're throwing in Batgirl!
Well that was different.  The extreme violence is a bit of a turn off as it is not what DC is usually about.  I give it a 6/10.  Not horrible but I didn't like it as much as the last Justice League flick.

I don't like the direction they've taken Batman at all.  He is now just a jerk about things and I never felt that was in Bruce.  Gruff, short, brutally honest but not a jerk.  I realize it is a different version of Bats but as I've said before I struggle when they drastically change the character without a real reason for the characteristics to change so drastically.

From a visual stand point this was on par with the newest versions.  They aren't horrible but there are things I don't like about it but I've covered that before.

I guess I continue to say the voice acting is what bothers me the most.  If you don't want Kevin doing Batman's voice fine but this version just doesn't work for me.  It is just....off to me.

Overall if you like the DC Universe and you've followed the others in the series this isn't bad.  I wouldn't go out of your way to watch it otherwise.  Not bad but not good either.  Just there.

Movie Review: Justice League vs. Teen Titans

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whenever it is you're reading this!  I am back this time to review another DC Animated flick, Justice League vs. Teen Titans!  It stars Rosario Dawson, Christopher Gorham, Shemar Moore.  It has a 7 over on IMDB on 5/10/16 (When I'm writing this up) "Robin is sent to work with the Teen Titans after his volatile behavior botches up a Justice League mission. The Titans must then step up to face Trigon after he possesses the League and threatens to conquer the world."  I'm interested in this flick as it is a unique idea.  Enough typing lets go!
  • Where is Lois Lane?
  • The Legion of Doom?  AWE WHAT A RUSH!
Wrong Legion of Doom?
  • Wait...who are these people fighting the Justice League?  I mean I know who they are but they haven't been introduced to this universe yet I don't think unless I missed a flick
  • Gotta respect Robin's idea of crowd control!
  • That was unique by Superman
  • Good grief some of DC's villains are lame
  • Well that is slightly disturbing
  • Oh it is Damian as Robin, that makes sense
Not the usual Robin nor Teen Titans
  • What a weird design for Beast Boy
  • I guess maybe it isn't weird just used to the Teen Titans designs already out there
  • Wait...they have Blue Beetle as a teenager?
  • So is Starfire a teen or their teacher?
  • Again with the glasses between Superman and Wonder Woman?  GOOD GRIEF
  • Who knew Blue Beetle was so cool look
  • Then again I don't know anything about Blue Beetle
  • I find Starfire & Ravens voices a little weird when you're used to old voice actors
  • Atomic Skull?  Really?
  • Is this all about Raven?
  • I haven't said it but I don't mind the Wonder Woman design.  Not Rosario as the voice actor but the design is good
  • That was strangely adult oriented
  • I really hate this Batman voice actor.  Sorry Jason O'Mara but you're just not right for Batman
  • Really a montage about getting to know each other with a horrible random pop song.  UGGG
  • Now a dance off between Beast Boy and Robin in Dance Dance Revolution...I mean whatever this is called...I don't want to get sued
  • I might stab myself in the ears if I have to hear much more of this pop music crap!
  • All black eyes are so damn creepy!
  • He only hits Raven because he loves her?
Ravens stalker?
  • Beast Boys name is Garfield?  That seems...wrong...but only if he was orange
  • Did Starfire just get naked in front of everyone at the carnival?
  • Her father sent them?
  • This is why I hate demons
  • I think this is how the Paranormal Activity series started Raven, you're just confused
  • Strange that Green Lantern and Shazam aren't involved here
  • To paraphrase Army of Darkness...Wonder Woman just got REAL ugly
  • The Boom tube/Cyborg thing is odd but I see that coming in the Justice League flick too
  • I like the Batman/Wonder Woman romance better.  Superman belongs with Lois, call me old fashion
  • I really like this storyline and flick
  • Perhaps its is the booze or the fact that I watched that horrible animated Titanic flick between the two Justice League flicks but I'm enjoying this much more than Throne of Atlantis.
  • They did a good job in the design of hell
  • Combining Damien and Raven's storylines, nice idea
  • Ra's al Ghul fighting style is cool, just like in Arrow
  • Well...didn't see that coming
  • The Justice League pretty much gets their asses kicked constantly
Well that was much better than Atlantis.  I enjoyed it quite a bit actually.  A MUCH better storyline for sure.  Again for whatever reason the animation and art didn't bother me as much as earlier today. Perhaps it is the booze or perhaps it is because the story was better and didn't distract me as much.

While normally I like the older voice actors I like the Damian/Robin voice actor.  It fits the character where I don't think the older one would.  I also can't complain about the voice actors for the Titans at all really.  While they were different they all fit the character designs I think.

The storyline of Ravens father was very nice and something I don't think was explored in the early 2000 Titan series.  The inclusion of Ra's al Ghul, even if it was just a trick of Trigon, was very cool. They have focused quite a bit on the Damian character in various Batman series so it makes sense to continue that focus.  Also works well for kids.

I will say the inclusion of the two pop songs was quite annoying.  I don't think it helped the story any and pulled me out of the story.  Especially the random dance video game segment.  I realize it was there to allow Raven to go visit with daddy but it was a little long winded.

Overall I give it a 7/10.  That is right on par with what others on IMDB have said.  A very good storyline and for the most part much better voice acting.  I still don't like Batmans voice actor and I missed Lantern and Shazam but those are minor points.

There wasn't anything that this flick did over the top amazing but it didn't do anything glaringly bad and that is an good thing!

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis: A Review

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you happen to be reading this.  Time for another movie review but this time it isn't part of the Bottom 100 as my last few.  This time I'll be checking out Justice League: Throne of Atlantis starring Sean Astin, Rosario Dawson and Nathan Fillion.  "When Atlantian troops assault Metropolis as revenge for the death of their king, the Queen seeks help from the Justice League to find her son who has gone missing during the madness."  This is the third movie of the reboot of the Animated Justice League.  As of 5/10/16 over on IMDB this has a rating of 6.6.  Lets jump in shall we.
  • While I don't like ALL the animation some of it is REALLY good
  • Its weird to have the 2001 Justice League Superman in the flick but not as Superman.  Its the voice I think of as Superman and had to do a double take when I heard it
  • I don't like Superman and Wonder Woman being an item
Just seems unnatural for him not to be kissing Lois
  • Interesting, he isn't king of Atlantis at this point
  • All this over a lobster?  The people in Metropolis really like their seafood
  • One of the things I don't like about this most recent reboot is some of the voice acting. Aquaman for example just seems flat and phoned in
  • Why is a trench coat always the perfect disguise for people?  the Turtles and others
  • However I will say that Fillion is perfect for Green Lantern
  • Good grief, they have Wonder Woman now wearing glasses to hide
  • I do not like the Superman model in this flick
The cape is just weird here
  • I also don't like the Batman voice actor or his design
  • Okay while I don't like Batman or Supermans voice actor Sean Astin and Fillion are great
  • I do like that these flicks are more adult orientated than the 2001 series but they are missing some of the magic that the series had
  • Where did he get the sub?
  • This flick isn't bad...but it is kind of boring honestly
  • Cthulhu?
  • YES AQUAMAN POWERS GO!
  • I kind of like the Atlantis armor, reminds me of some of the Mass Effect armor
  • John Henry....nice
  • Well that was just stupid looking, a walking Green Lantern maid with a vacuum?  Where have I seen something like that before?
Just paint it Green
  • Damn...we're going to need a bigger boat Manta
Lifeless doll eyes
  • I like this Orm character, however a little overpowered
Needs a better costume however
  • Nice call back, I like that Batman is the one thinking...as always
  • Why would they follow someone they don't know?  Because he is in that kinda cool orange outfit?
  • I don't like that he joins Justice League so openingly
  • King of the Sea stuff?
Well that was something.  I think the 6.6 rating was about right.  Slightly above average.  I give it a 6/10.

It was one of those flicks that doesn't do anything good but it doesn't do anything bad either.  The storyline is different and I'm sure taken from a comic series.  A different take on the Aquaman origin storyline.

The animation/art is what it is.  I like it most of the time but I don't like over exaggerated muscles of the male heroes.  I also think the character designs are a little off.  The capes sit weird, the jaws are a little off, everything is just slightly off for me.

The voice acting is there.  I know I mentioned it before it isn't that it is bad it is just hard not to compare it to the 2001 Justice League which I think had the voices just perfect.  However I'm sure that is me looking back through rose colored glasses since I'm a huge fan of the series.

It is what it is.  If you like the DC universe check this out sometime.  Its worth the 80 minutes or so...what is this?  An after credits scene...with Luthor?  NICE!

There you go, a little different review today then lately.  I'll continue with my Bottom 100 reviews in the near future.  I also think I'll start watching the top 250 randomly as well to give a balance.  As always if you want me to watch a flick just let me know and I'll do it.  Until next time, remember, never mess with a lobster!

Batman vs. Robin...a movie review

I decided to check out Batman vs. Robin from a few months ago.  Here are my thoughts as I watched:
  • Blah, horrible "animation" to start off with the batmobile
  • Jason O'Mara is not Batman!
  • This is a creepy version of the Doll Maker...well his victims anyway!
  • I like that DC has made the films slightly darker then they used to be
  • Wait...IMDB tells me that the Doll Maker was Weird Al?!?!  Doesn't sound anything like him
  • I miss the Animated cast from the 1990's
  • Not a fan of Stuart Allan and his version of Damian Wayne
  • I wonder if they made Nightwing look greasy on purpose
  • Wait...that is Batman!  I hear Batman...why is Kevin Conroy cast in this movie but not as Batman?  WHY?!  WHO WOULD DO SUCH A THING?!  THEY SHOULD BE DESTROYED
    • Yes I know I sound like a fan boy with that comment but why cast him in the film, just to give the fans a slap?
  • Batman is not nearly as tough as I remember him
  • Now horribly computer "animated" cars.  Boo!  They just look out of place with everything else looking good
  • Batman is nothing like I remember in this "New 52" Universe.  To quote the Doctor "I don't like it"
  • Also Batman falls for a lot of traps which is very strange, the Batman I remember only did that on purpose
  • Sometimes the bad guys do stuff that makes no sense.  This film has quite a few of those moments
  • The bad guys run like the Ninja Turtles on their "new" show, which weirds me out both here and on their show
  • Batman has Hulkbuster armor?
  • Seriously this is the worst version of Batman ever!
  • Pretty sure if Joker fought this Batman Gotham would all have giant smiles on their faces
Okay first off the voice acting, much like most of the new DC Universe...well it sucks.  They just don't fit the characters at all!  Nightwing isn't horrible but the rest....blah!  The storyline I believe is from the New 52 and I believe loosely follows the comics storyline.  The storyline itself isn't bad, kind of interesting, and would have been great back in the Animated Series but here it felt rushed.  As I mentioned about to have Kevin Conroy do a voice and have it not be Batman is just dumb.  Don't use him or use him correctly.  My biggest problem is what Talon does.  I don't want to do any kind of spoilers but his actions do not fit his character at all.  It was the actions of someone less calculating and cerebral. Over on IMDB I gave it a 6/10 due to some bad animation and the voice acting.  I would have done a 5.5 but you can't.  It is average at best.  I miss the good ol' days of the Animated Series and Justice League.  Until next time...abyssinia!
