Classic Wrestling Review: 1994-01-22 USWA

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you found this entry.  Today, 2020-02-13,  I am going into the way back machine again this time to Jan 22nd, 1994 and going now to Memphis for some USWA action.  I have a feeling we will see at least one Lawler if not more!  Perhaps a Gilbert or two as well!  So lets go down for some old school territory WRESTLING!

• Koko, Gilberts, Lawlers and Skull Von Krush!  What a show!
• Oh right I forgot about Big Business Brown
• Triple B looks very awkward in that shirt and tie.  Probably should have a jacket on if you are "Big Business"
• Del Rios has a great body but horrible gear
• He pulled his ear hair!  I SAW IT DAVE BROWN!
• SABU IS HERE!  Oh, wait never mind it is a weird wizard of some kind.  
• The Great Mephisto was the wizard...okay that was strange
• Seriously?  He was shot?
• I wonder where Eddie would be right now had his "demons" not caught up with him.  
• What is with Anthony's gloves?
• Eddie has a point, you cannot go over the top rope, its a DQ!
• I wonder if this is before or after Gaylord attacked Eddie in the GWF, I assume after
• Jeff, of course, is well known for a series of bank robberies in Colorado years later
• Triple B should learn you do not actually choke them on the ropes, you pull them down on the ropes to choke them
• He picked that chain up AFTER the match.  This is horrible!
• Look at those trunks Brian has on!  Nothing says mid-90's then that
• Does Lawler ever age?
• Ah you gotta love live TV
• More Great Mephisto stuff?
• I love that Koko is still in his High Energy gears several years later
• Koko being very aggressive.  Not the Birdman we remember
• Did Koko just say Jap?  WOW!

Lawler can just talk you into the arena!  I want to go watch this Texas Deathmatch!  Brian was not that bad either.  You throw in some great Eddie talking and a solid Del Rios match and this was a fun show.  Again the USWA shows were all about getting you to come to the big Monday show each week but when it was good it was good.  The Great Mephisto is so weird.   Also what is up with Koko repeatedly saying Jap?  Very odd!

Critters Attack: A Hungry Movie Review

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  Tonight, 2020-04-17, I finally got around to checking out last years Critters Attack flick.  This series is really the only horror series to give me constant nightmares, occasionally to this day.  Something about those furballs with blood-red eyes that get to me still!  Currently, it has 3.7/10 on IMDB with
1,527 votes.  I know Dee Wallace is back as her character from the first flick and that is about it so enough talk, I am hungry as a crite for more critters!!

• Apparently, this is a TV movie and that makes a little sad
• Starting off with the old horror trope of tripping when running away nice
• Of course, the cop is a jerk
• Why is the cop keeping his booze in a flask in his own home?
• A buffet for ALF!
• Really overpowering music thus far in the flick
• Mmmm, sushi
• Outdoor Dougie....good grief!
• What college has a security gate?
• Cassette?  Who the fuck makes and still has a cassette player?  When is this suppose to take place?
• Who knows the words to a college fight song?
• Who tells random strangers their life stories?
• Good grief this girl is more awkward than the gatekeeper
• Is that Outdoor Dougie?
• Or Backpack Doug as IMDB calls him
• The sound mixing is really bad on this flick
• So they are like Aliens now that they lay their eggs inside people, interesting
• They also now sound like Predators, weird
• They did a good job of making the crites look the same creepy way they did before
• So they just looked confused until attacked, look at them, they are creepy looking, assume they want to kill you, I would
• I cannot believe the same writer who wrote this also did Happy Death Day, which was actually well written
• The dialogue is awful in this flick, like TV movie bad....oh wait yeah it is
• Was it a baby crite?
• Oh, of course, it will be the one good crite
• Yeah...probably not a good idea to go to the ranger station
• Did they use the same models from the 2nd flick?  That was the bald one right?
• OH MY THE WIFI IS DOWN!
• Is the power out too?
• Oh shit, Aunt Dee has a PKE meter for Crites!
• So no one in towns knows Aunt Dee's story?
• Or of the town that was attacked by aliens twice?
• Wait sirens make the crites explode now?
• How are you going to be back?  
• Holy Shit there are hundreds of them 
• He is twelve?  Really?
• They have not shot anyone with their quills yet
• Also, how is Aunt Dee missing all this?
• A lot of walking for an alien outbreak
• He has to take his shirt off to run incredibly fast?
• "Its the Monster Ball" -Selena
• Really they brought the giant critter ball back?
• This is not a good pep talk Drea
• If this vans a rocking that means we are a eatin
• So they saw a giant ball of them eat a guy completely and they are going to stop and fight?
• Did they forget how to shoot quills?
• Did she just bitch slap that crite?
• What was the point of having Aunt Dee in this flick?
• The Queen?  Is she going to kill Bianca?
• When did Aunt Dee become a Bounty Hunter?  Why not just have drunk Charlie do it
• Also, where is the main bounty hunter guy, he should be here.  I need Jean Valjean in this flick!
• So the quills do nothing in this flick
• Why wait to start shooting?

Well, that was a movie for sure.  I give it a 5/10  I feel like it was the victim of really bad editing.  It had the groundwork of a good flick.  The story of an invasion and the queen coming to stop them is not bad.  You also had the story of the kids fighting to stay alive and tell everyone.  But you had the weird sushi storyline that went nowhere and the Uncle blamed himself storyline that just did not fit.  Overall if you like the Critters flicks you have to watch this one.  If you want an okay flick this is not a bad way to spend 90 minutes, plus it was better than #4!  I would be interested in hearing a directors commentary on some of the choices made for sure.  Oh, I forgot to say the main acting from the core group of young people was really good!  Drea especially considering some of the dialog was not great.  

1994-02-05 The Night the Line was Crossed

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-04-16, I am checking you the ECW Supershow The Night the Line was Cross.  I wonder how this show will hold up...so LETS GET EXTREME!

• Were there a lot of kids at the ECW arena?  
• Norm the Lunatic 2.0?
• Just switched over to the Network as it is 20 minutes longer for some reason
• I usually try to stick with live recording or commercial releases but such is life
• It is weird that Hughes wrestles like he is the Big Show at times
• Well that was ugly!
• Love what appears to be duck tape on the ring apron
• So weird for Sandman to be in wrestling gear
• Did Jason change clothes?
• Yes Joey confirmed it
• This match is well what ECW is, sloppy brawling
• This next match is going to be more of the same, sloppy brawling.  This is why I never got into ECW over the years
• I like that Joey is acting like this is some special rules match.  Every ECW match is like this basically
• How many times are we going to hear that you live in Stanford Joey?
• We saw this in Smoky with the Bruise Brothers and Moondogs
• We saw this in Memphis with the Gilberts and the Lawlers
• Does that one guy in the front row have a mask?  OH MY GOD IS THAT EXCALIBER?
• Why is Joey constantly yelling?
• Wait, one shot from a 2 x 4 ended it after everything that happened to PE?  
• Oh I love early Tommy Dreamer
• Did he steal those trunks from Jim Neidhart?
• Dreamer is dancing his pecs a lot
• Snuka and the fans really going at it, weird
• The only line that is being crossed in my patients with ECW thus far
• That was an ugly looking fall on the floor
• In all reality, is that the first time someone kicked out of that splash?
• Were they getting ready to give Snuka a major push here?
• Did they give Tommy a blood pack or do you think they did the old bloody condom thing that Corny talks about?
• I bet this match is going to be mat classic
• I do not think I have ever seen the Original Sheik before
• Did they bill him as Patrick Tanaka?  Weird
• Good grief Sheik can barely move
• Thank goodness this was is over.  This three way dance better be REALLY good or this is the worst show of 1994 so far
• Sheik and that fan nearly got into it.  That would be like beating up someones grandfather
• I did not know Awesome was wrestling this early on....look at that mullet!!!
• OH MY GOD DID HE BREAK JT IN HALF?!
• Good grief Heyman attacked Sheri!
• The camera work has not been great tonight
• This is weird with no announcing thus far
• So this is a weird 3-Way.  15 minutes of Shane vs. Sabu and either the winner faces Funk or he comes out at 15 minutes and it becomes a 3 way.  Very strange
• This match is partially saving the show but then they do a piledriver on the floor and the match will continue
• So the piledriver on the floor meant nothing.  Great to know
• Honestly, this match has been very basic but okay.  Nothing special.  Maybe had I seen it at the time but my god it is too long and not believable.  
• Now we have the Rotten's in the ring brawling.  So overbooked and bells and whistles

Well the main event made it a watchable show.  It was not great but it could be that this show does not stand up over time.  It is hard not to watch with 2020 (and I do not mean hindsight) eyes.  The show before this was bad.  The Dreamer match was good and was showing his toughness.  But beyond that match and the main event this show was not good.  Again I know people look back at ECW fondly so maybe it is because this was not my childhood as well.  If you enjoy a long brawl check this show out.  If not well there are better ways to spend 2 hours.

• Borga played the foreign heel well
• How annoying was Doink when Dink came around
• This interview with Johnny Polo is the best thing EVER!
• I have lost audio on this show!
• How dumb were those glasses of Shawn's
• If it comes down to Diesel and Shawn Diesel will step over the top rope because he is Shawn's employee!

Classic Wrestling Review: 1994-02-05 Superstars

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-04-16, we are once again going back to 1994 to check out Superstars.  The Steiners take on the Quebecers in a ten minute none title match where the Steiners can earn a title shot next week.  Plus Kwang, Doink and others so to the ring we go!

• It is so weird to see the Italian Stallion on WWF TV
• How is Razor the undisputed Intercontinental champion if Shawn disputes it?
• Barry Horowitz!  My favourite enhancement talent
• Waltman was good back at this point, too bad he got mixed up with a lot of stuff later on
• Same with Marty 
• Owen has no problem wrestling Bret because Owen knows that Bret is afraid of him!
• I liked Kwang much more as Savio Vega
• One of my favourite moves, that spin kick in the corner all the way to the floor
• I am surprised that is the second, maybe third superkick of the show
• Best theme song ever?  Change my mind!
• I also really liked the Steiners music
• Rick Martel against The Macho Man next week?  That is a good match!
• Who would think 20+ years later Pierre would be a major star
• Jacques always hit the ropes weird, cannot say what it is
• VICIOUS CLOTHESLINE!
• Jacques always had a pretty piledriver
• How is this not a DQ?
• IT IS THE BEST HART EVER!!
• Those Hitman glasses sure were stupid looking looking back at it now
• Wow, Italian Stallion AND George South on one show.  Is this a mid 80's Crockett show?
• Well that was a quick match, poor George

A fun show especially with the Stallion and South showing up on TV Show.  You have a good Owen Interview, a great tag match, Corny being Corny.  Nothing special on the show but worth checking out especially for the tag match!

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-02-09, I am checking out the 2020-01-03 episode of 205 Live.  I have not followed the 205 product much over the last few years so I am interested in seeing what we have on the first show of the decade....so let us get to the ring

• Man Aiden English has a great voice!
• Danny Burch looks like the two guys in Imperium
• Well the ref did say that he had to break the hold
• I love that English just said boo-erns!
• Does every match need to be 15+ minutes?
• Do you think anyone live got the mocking of The King?  I don't think I would have had Tom not mentioned it
• Oh they are in Memphis so they probably did get the King mocking
• Why is security not pulling this "fan" out?
• Wait now he has a mic?  This is stupid
• Oh...it is Brian Kendrick!
• I do like Kendrick
• Seriously this kid Wayne looks like a really tall midget, he is so weirdly shaped

Classic Wrestling Review: 1994-01-22 SMW

Good morning, good afternoon good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-02-09, we are going back in time once more this time to the Smoky Mountains.  We are going to watch the January 22nd SMW show.  Las time Cornette attacked Ricky Morton's dad so I am sure there will be hell to pay!

• It is so weird that Cornette hated this style match but yet it is happening on his own show
• That kid just ran from the Moondog.  Now they would be laughing because no one believes
• If Candido came around now he would be one of the biggest stars going
• Ron White is coming back!  The fans will love that
• Good solid match by Spicolli, just another guy who left us too early
• Wait, did he just shake hands with the ref?  Obviously Mark Curtis is on the take!
• Dr. Tom sounds so much like Piper
• How great is Corny?
• Good grief look at this!  Is that the Yeti?
• Nice we get to hear Daryl Van Horne on commentary!
• Damn I miss Candido in the ring
• I feel like if White Boy was in better shape he would have had a better run in WWF
• There was almost a full moon with Tammy!

A good show for SMW.  Obviously building to Sunday Bloody Sunday with the Chain Match and the Cornette group.  I love how real it seemed between Cornette and the Rock N Roll.  It did not seem like a wrestling angle or people playing mad.  Also how hokey, and done on purpose, is the Prince.  Overall a fun show and I do enjoy me some SMW and old school wrestling!  Until next time.....Abyssinia!
