1994-02-13 Main Event

 

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry. Today, 2020-10-03 I am going back 26 years to 1994 to Valentine's Eve, Feb. 13.  I would have been in 8th grade if my memory services correctly and, shockingly enough, I do not think I had a girlfriend.  But that was then and this is now....and I still do not have a girlfriend....I have a lovely wife so suck it 1994!  Sorry got distracted.  We are one week from SuperBrawl so the final build-up is upon us!  Enough waiting it is time to get to the Main Event!

• Of course, the match is re-instated!  No one thought the match would not happen, did they?  
• Avery moves so weirdly
• Is this the best shape Traylor was ever in?
• Is Larry one of the most underrated announcers?
• It is odd that DDP looked better a few years after this.  
• I always thought Taylor was underrated especially in the early 90's and his team with Greg Valentine
• Best TV Champ ever....sorry Double A
• Giving the future DOGG a TV title shot
• Sorry got lost in this match, the D O Double G is actually wrestling with his Lordship and I am surprised
• Regal with a sunset flip?  I do not remember seeing Regal do that before!
• A dropkick from Armstrong!  Wow!
• Oh, I love the slaps from Regal.....WHAT THE HELL IS SCOTT ARMSTRONG DOING!  He should be fined and fired!
• Exactly typical bloody Americans
• That building must have been extremely hot, Regal and Boss both were just covered in sweat
• Was this laying down the groundwork for the Regal & Zbyszko feud?  
• Could that mask be any tighter on the Assassin's face?
• Where did the Assassin go?  He just suddenly stopped managing Pretty Wonderful.  Guess I will find out if there was a reason as I go on
• I cannot believe how much offensive Roma is getting; shows the skills of both men

This was a really good show.  When you have Double-A and Regal on the same show you are in for a good one.  I am excited for Superbrawl.  I had it as a tape trader back in the day but I do not know if I ever actually sat down and watched it.  I assume I have since it was for that match specifically.  However, two really good matches and a squash for the Boss, and this was a very effective show in my opinion.  Until next time, as always, Abyssinia!

Classic Wrestling: 1994-02-12 Worldwide

 

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  Today, 2020-09-21, I am checking out the Feb. 12th 1994 edition of WCW Worldwide.  We are on the doorstep to Superbrawl.  Will Vader be in action?  Will Flair be around?  I think we should go find out!

• I think Travis & Thames, the Southern Posse, go on to be Disorderly conduct but I am not 100% sure
• They are big guys
• I think this and the Bagwell with the Patriot is Bagwell at his peak in the ring
• What is up with that slow count?  Good grief!
• Man how great was Scorpio?  That, I think it was called the tumbleweed, was amazing
• Who dressed Missy?  They should be fired!  
• Oh JBB!
• ITS BARRY GOLDBERG!
• Payne barely got over Ricky there, strange as he is usually solid in the ring, as far as we have seen them
• Uggg, that was stupid, stupid into the face camera shot during the match
• Weekly Regal match and I am excited!
• A perfect drop toe hold, I miss Regal in the ring
• I love William distracting the ref in a usual way, it is the little things that they do
• LOVE IT!  Regal and Sir William were perfect together
• That was a stiff-looking knee from Sags!
• Weird cut right there as Lorenzo came in
• Kinda stiff on Lorenzo the entire time he was in the ring!
• JBB gets to have two interviews?
• It is weird to hear Harlem Heat called Kane and Kole, even though I know they started that way
• No such thing as quiet when it comes to Michael Hayes as well; or so I hear
• Did he really go over the top or did Stevie Ray screw up?
• Nope, the replay shows over the top!

A decent show.  A good Regal match albeit short.  But the psychology that Regal and William use was so good and entertaining.  A good main event until the end and it got a little sloppy but Booker and JBB were still kind of green at the time.  Overall a nice syndicated show, nothing earth shattering was going to happen but it was good.

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...whenever it is you have found this entry.  It is August 29, 2020 and I am hoping into the way back machine to February 12th 1994 to check out USWA wrestling.  Territory time and I am willing to bet we will see some Jerry Lawler, some Brian Christopher, probably some Gilberts and most likely some bad promos!  I think we should go to the tape to find out if I am right!

• USWA/Memphis has some really bad managers
• USWA had some great brawls over the years
• I wonder how good it felt to give Brian that jacket in the ring
• That one Moondog makes these matches x-rated with his titties flopping around
• Did they catch that Moondog putting his blade into his pocket?
• Is this a recap show?  I feel like I have seen these matches
• For a guy who did not see Koko prior to the WWF a heel Koko seems so weird

A very odd show.  I think something must have happened prior to this show and they had to create a recap show.  My version of the show starts off with no sound briefly so I don't know if Cory said anything about it.  Not much to say about this because of the oddness of it honestly.

1994-01-01 Mania

 

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....and today we are going back in time to 1994.  I recently found a collection of 1994 Mania so I am going back to the New Year despite being into March typically.  So let's go watch Mania, which is the UK version!

• I forgot how goofy this show was...and I love it!
• Polo was in awesome shape!
• I miss atomic drops!
• I had Polo fever once, the shots suck
• A fair and square win for Polo after Jannetty attacked Pierre!
• Howard Finkle is doing an interview?  That is rare!
• I love the chemistry between Savage and Pettengill
• I miss guys like Mike Sharpe and the Brawler and Barry Horowitz
• Scotty 2 Hotty!!
• Weird to think that in six years Scotty would be one of the most over guys in the company with Rikishi and Grandmaster!
• Double J was one of my favourites...well still is
• I love Gorilla bashing Double J's misspeak, he gave no fucks at this point 
• Well over a half-hour, had to be at least 20 minutes!  I love Savage!
• Speaking of "The Winner" it is Bad Barry Horowitz!
• I am shocked to see Flexy Lexxy give Bad Barry this much offence
• I think this was the best version of Shawn in-ring wise.  I know people will argue but I take the 92 till Wrestlemania 12 version personally
• You did not see Shawn do a Russian Legsweep often
• I was always a fan of Savio Vega....Kwang not so much
• Was there a more talented guy in the ring than Razor who never actually achieved his peak?
• I do not remember seeing Razor do that fallaway slam from the buckles often
• How is Danny Davis officiating?  I thought he was banned for life!  Gorilla is right Tunney needs to be impeached
• Why did we not get Savage & Pettengill vs. Fuji & Crush?  I would have paid to see that!

Obviously, this is mostly a clip show and reshowing matches from other shows but it is fine.  Todd and Randy were very fun to watch.  I know people do not like 1994 stuff but wrestling was fun and made sense!  Watching these shows reminds me why I became a fan.

2021-04-29 Impact

 

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you have found this entry.  I am back after a break to deal with some health issue, both myself and my wife, to resume watching wrestling!  Today, 2021-04-30, I am checking out last nights Impact show.  We are fresh off their recent PPV and their relationship with AEW is going strong.  I think we should see what will happen now!

• I miss hearing Striker every week on WWE because he sounds real and has so much passion
• No rematch clause?  That makes no sense, why would Swann agree to that?
• I like this Jake Something the few times I have seen him
• Bey is very good but just not my style match
• Oh great we will get constant updates on Omega....blarg
• A lot of camera cuts here, did they go to the Kevin Dunn school of directing?
• Nice spin kick by Bey
• If Something got into a real developmental type environment, old OVW or NXT, he would be a star!
• Seriously?  Jake is not in the number one contenders match yet?  He should be!
• I always liked the around the corner shot that Impact does like they are spying on the guys
• Is it that exciting that Taylor is back?  Do many people remember her?
• Big Cass shows up and looks like a star for sure!
• Oh yeah now I remember why Big Cass did not do a lot of talking back in WWE
• I am surprised that they did not rename Cass Adam or Copeland since he looks so much like Edge IMO
• The Knockouts cannot really talk, at least from what I am seeing thus far
• The Curator?  
• I like Willie Mack in the ring but he is not great on the mic
• Is Taylor suppose to be a version of Lacey Evans?  I honestly do not really remember Taylor much
• Was she making Taylor smell her shoe?  
• Those kicks were in slow motion
• Wait...did she miss without Taylor moving?
• Oh I guess Taylor got the knees up but really Kimber just overshot
• I think that is Triple H's WCW finish
• Dear lord how big is Moose's head?
• This sounds weird, but I feel like Josh is almost too deliberate.  I do not mean start doing more moves but have a sense of urgency in the attack.  He is not a monster that should be deliberate.  If he was in a freestyle wrestling match he would not be this deliberate and he should wrestle like that
• So many head palm whips now that Cornette has pointed it out 
• Are there any male wrestlers without tat sleeves anymore?
• That series was way too choreographed for my taste with all the handstands and what not
• What was that weird implant DDT move?  
• Josh wisely grabbing his knee to sell that Ace missed the senton
• More Callis really?
• Wow these Knockout segments are painful, Bella Twin painful
• These two are feuding but are they still doing their figure podcast?
• Always ready?  Out Work everyone else?  AEW and Impact must use the same tag line team
• So I see Bey and Something in the six way but either of these guys?  I am sorry but neither of these guys should be competing for a World Title till they have rehabbed that WWE undercard stink off them
• And that is not meant that they do not deserve to be near or at the top but optics are what optics are!
• Does Impact use a smaller ring than the other companies?  It seems very small but it could be the angle they use
• When El Phantasmo is in the Bullet Club you know they have jumped the shark, like Stevie Ray in the nWo
• Seriously comparing these two to Joker and Batman is horrible D-Lo!
• I do not get Sami Callihan, I do not.  He is one of those guys that seems to always be around and I do not get why.  He seems sloppy in the ring
• 30 seconds in and Omega is already shaking the ropes!
• Is anyone excited about a Kenny Omega & Sami Callihan match?
• Those were some weakass shots by Omega to Finlay

A good solid show.  Nothing came off as groundbreaking.  You have the Omega stuff which I do not like because I think he is the most overhyped wrestler in the last twenty years but some people love him I guess.  The ratings do not show it people say it!  Overall solid show but there really is not anything I would say must see!  They kept the silliness to a minimum which is good!  As would have liked to have one less Don Callis segment but they told a story throughout so I am okay with it.  Solid wrestling and that is something that some shows, AEW I am looking at you, needs!
