My Review of Superbabies; Baby Geniuses 2

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening whenever it is you happened upon this review.  I continue my quest to see the bottom 100 movies over in IMDB.  This time I am checking out Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2.  As of 5/9/16 it has a 1.9 rating.  It stars Jon Voight (Really?), Scott Baio, Vanessa Angel.  "A group of smart-talking toddlers find themselves at the center of a media mogul's experiment to crack the code to baby talk. The toddlers must race against time for the sake of babies everywhere."  Enough of this, it is time for me to watch yet another bottom 100 film!

• I am 2 minutes in and wow is all I can say.  Wow
• I think that kid just grew 2 feet and then shrunk again.  He really is SUPER!
• Is this a prequel to Agent Cody Banks?
• How is there any scenery left after that first Voight scene?  WOW!

Springtime for Hitler and Germany

• Who wrote this and why?
• Duck?  
• Is it too late to back out of this bottom 100 idea?
• 76 minutes to go....
• Wait...the kids can read and write and use computers?
• Are they really trying to get the baby to talk?
• Even the adults are bad actors

• The worst bad guys in the world

Or anyone to watch this movie!

• Good grief this must have been written by a 3 year old
• What in the blue hell am I watching?
• Why aren't the kids wearing pants?
• Shouldn't someone be looking for these kids?
• The man is over 7 years old?  GOOD GOD WHO WROTE THAT LINE!?!
• Nice random cameos even though I have no idea who that band was
• Wait...where are the parents of those 3 kids?  Is it a daycare or an orphanage?
• Wow an actual storyline in this flick.  Probably should've started off with that boys and girls
• I think my IQ is dropping by the minute, and I don't have that many points to spare!
• Who starts a countdown at 60 seconds?
• Why in the blue hell is he just spinning around while typing?
• I can almost squeeze through those bars
• Even the voice acting is bad
• A beach landing?  
• What are those random floating balls in the water?
• Again why aren't the babies wearing pants
• This is just so poorly written
• This was just an anti-TV story?

Well that was something.  Lets start off with my rating, which is 2/10.  

I usually like to say something good about a flick but there just wasn't anything in this.  Nothing.  The acting was horrible.  The CGI was pisspoor.  The story was almost nonexistent for the first half of the film.  Did I mention the acting was horrible?

This sad thing is that the story about the two kids and the super juice wasn't horrible.  It'd actually make a decent kids TV show I think if worked correctly but in this format it was not right.  Now that I think about it if you broke this down into a TV format it might not be nearly as bad and hard to swallow.  But as a full fledge film it hurts bad to watch.

I don't know what Jon Voight was thinking doing this film.  Everyone else I can understand as Scott and Vanessa aren't' exactly A list stars.  The kids actually weren't horrible but when you throw in the HORRIBLE voice acting this was just painful.

Do NOT watch this.  This isn't a good bad movie.  It is just bad.  Bad baby.  Bad!  At some point I think I have to watch the first Baby Geniuses and I'm sure I'll have a similar response to it.  Up next time on this bad movie ride is the animated film Titanic: The Legend Goes On...

My Reaction during most of this film

Captain America Civil War: A Review

Marvels most recent film came out this week with Captain America: Civil War.  "Political interference in the Avengers' activities causes a rift between former allies Captain America and Iron Man."  It stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson.  

The idea is that the Government decides that the Avengers are given too much freedom and that they need to be controlled by, I believe, the UN.  Basically they will be told where and when to go fight and who.  Iron Man wants this after a woman gives him a picture of her son who died.  Captain America disagrees and refuses to sign along with Hawkeye, Falcon and Scarlet Witch.  They then go to war with each other after someone attacks the UN signing of the new law.  

There is a brief summary of the plot without many spoilers.  There will be more below so you've been warned.

I am still torn on this flick.  This starts, I believe, Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  It introduced the fan favorite Spider-Man to the MCU making it his debut.  It also introduced Black Panther expanding the MCU a little more.  

Overall I enjoyed the film.  The inclusion of Spidey and Ant-Man I enjoyed quite a bit.  This was the first time I felt they got Spidey right.  The constant talking and jokes and quips and such were done well and it felt right with Tom Holland doing it.  The past film versions just didn't feel quite right.

I also enjoyed the more serious Iron Man even though I missed his smart ass persona as well.  It was nice to see things move forward character wise as I felt things were a little stale in Avengers 2. Although I feel that Scarlet Witch had a more lasting effect on Iron Man then the others which I hope they play off more in the future.

I thought SOME of the CGI was done well but there is SO much of it.  I also felt that there was too much shaky cam usage, especially during the first fight scene.  I feel that it is slowly becoming a standard in action flicks and I'm not a fan it.  

I also feel that there were a few really weird shots...but this might be due to us being a little close to the screen and off to the side.  There was one scene in particular that involved Capt and Black Widow in a church that had each in a solo shot but each one is on one side of the screen if that makes sense. Just a weird choice of camera shots.

Overall it was enjoyable if not a little long which is just the norm in movies anymore.  I felt that a few scenes went a little long including the car chase where Panther shows up.  There also was the seemingly pointless introduction of Martin Freemans character of Everett K. Ross.  I'm sure we'll learn more about this character as the MCU advances.  

If you're a fan of the MCU, and lets be honest who isn't at this point, check it out.  If you can see it in IMAX I think it'd be very good in the large print format.  Overall I give it a 7/10, nothing overly amazing but just yet another stepping stone in the MCU.

Manos: The Hand of Fate....A Movie Review

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whenever it is you happen to be reading this.  I am back once again on my quest to see the Bottom 100 movies on IMDB (English speaking).  This time I'm checking out the 1966 flick Manos: The Hands of Fate .  "A family gets lost on the road and stumbles upon a hidden, underground, devil-worshiping cult led by the fearsome Master and his servant Torgo." As of 5/5/16 this flick has a 1.9 on IMDB.  It stars Tom Neyman, John Reynolds and Diane Adelson.  I usually try to stay away from older flicks because it is hard to judge them on todays standards but my question drives me and this will put me 1/5 of the way through these flicks! Enough of the prelims lets get onto the main event.  Here are my thoughts as I watched Manos: The Hands of Fate:

• Wait...this is the start of the flick?  I assume youtube cut off the start
• What is with Row Row Your Boat showing up in these bottom 100 movies?  This flick, Troll 2.  Never put this in flick
• Oh there we go, there is the title
• Well that was random scene with the cop.  Wonder if the tail light thing will do something later on
• I'm only five minutes in and I'm confused as to what is going on.  Now a random necking scene with random people

• I found this while looking at the trivia on IMDB:  The film was popularized by a 1993 episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988), in which Joel and the Bots, Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot, go mad while suffering through the film's endless boredom. The creators of the show called this the worst film that had been featured.
• This cop gets around...what is wrong with that girl who was necking.  Was she wasted?
• Yeah I don't think I'd go ask that guy for anything, directions or otherwise.  I sure wouldn't take my wife and little girl up with me!
• IMDB says that Torgo was high the entire filming which might make sense why he is twitching like a maniac.
• Wait, they are randomly going to stay with this twitching fool with a staff with a hand on top?  Yeah that makes sense

• Really weird filming in this.  Lots of random reaction shots that make no sense
• This dude really likes hands
• That painting is awesome!

• Wait, you don't want to run into them in the light yet you're randomly staying at his house?!
• Thankfully he has a flashlight and a gun like all travelers in the 60's!
• Bye Bye doggie
• What was the purpose of that scene?  Randomly showing him walk into the desert with the dead dog?
• Well these scene is making me uncomfortable!

• I didn't understand a word that kid just said
• How did the dog get chained up again?
• Yeah Torgo puts the creep factor up to a ten!
• GOOD GOD HE IS PEEPING IN ON HERE!  And the look on his face...

• This is bad and weird...and not in good ways thus far!
• Oh the random neckers are back, I was wondering what happened to them..and the cop stops them again?!
• I do kind of want a Master robe however...

• And immediately after waking the wives they are loud and arguing!
• Was this scene repeated twice with different takes of the wives arguing?
• CAT FIGHT!
• This jazz soundtrack is awful
• Even the dog looks bored being in this movie
• Is Torgo dying or going into a drug induced coma?
• So she makes out with him then slaps him around?  Usually I have to pay extra for that!
• I thought Torgo was dead
• Oh now is going to be killed...then what was that thing in the corner?
• He still isn't dead?  The ceremony was done, wasn't it to kill him?!?
• Is that the Monkey's Paw he is holding?
• Good grief they fall down a lot
• Why put in several out of focus shots?
• Now I know where the Birdemic filmmaker got his ideas.  So much driving in both flicks!
• THE NECKERS ARE BACK!  Necking in the rain with the top down...

That was 70 minutes of my life I won't get back.  I will give it a 2/10 because the Torgo and Master characters were so over the top!  That is the only reason.  I honestly have no idea what I just watched. One of the worst shot films I've ever seen.  There were seriously several shots at the end that were out of focus!  

There were several shots of just the actors making weird faces...or I think they were suppose to be reaction shots but they were just weird and random faces.  On top of that you could tell some if not all of the flick was dubbed as sound was off and the voices just didn't seem to always fit.

The story was decent enough.  Family runs into random "Manos" worshipers but beyond that very little of it made sense.  Were they sent there on purpose and if they were why was Torgo so against it at first?  Because of the child?  I am probably putting more thought into the flick then the writer and director did.

I can't say much for the acting, it was the 60's after all.  Go back and watch some of the old Dragnet TV show and other things from the era.  It was just different.

However from storytelling and visually it was bad.  I haven't seen the Rifftrax or the MST3K versions of this but I might have to hunt them down.  

Up next on my trip to the bottom is the 2004 classic Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2.  May Manos have mercy on my soul!

Movie Review: Batman vs. Superman....BATMAN WINS!

Good morning, good afternoon or good evening, whenever it is you happen to be reading this.  I FINALLY got a chance to see this flick.  

Let me start of by saying that I enjoyed the flick.  Was it perfect?  Of course not but it was better than I expected.  Over on IMDB as of tonight, 4/30, it has a rating of 7.2.  I'd give it a solid 7 almost an 8.  

Lets start with the good.  The main actors, Ben and Henry, were amazing.  I thought that Ben was great in his role of grizzled angry bitter Batman while Henry did another great job was Superman. Throw in Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Laurence Fishburne and Holly Hunter and it was a great cast.  That isn't to say that I thought everyones character was good but everyone did a good job with what they were given.

I also thought, for the most part, it was a good film visually.  Early on they did do a few too many artsy shots for my taste but films wonderfully.  The effects were also very well done.  I didn't think at any point things seemed out of place or green screened.

Also the fight scenes were awesome.  I think my favorite was the "dream" fight scene with Batman and Supermans agents.  Batman fighting and shooting while the weird winged soldiers were grabbing people was amazing.  Ben was amazing was Batsy!

Now onto my few bad points.

Jeremy Irons was just out of place.  This version of Alfred as "Q" and what not just didn't fit for me. I felt he was too friendly with Batman with some of his comments.  

I didn't like the inclusion of Wonder Woman.  It felt forced to include here.  Also how does her weapon hurt Doomsday even though it is only Kryptonian weapons that can.  Does that mean her weapon is of Krypton?  I'm still not sold on Wonder Woman in general.  She just didn't feel like WW to me.

Next let me talk about Luthor.  I liked how Jesse performed what he was given but I didn't like it.  I think my opinion of Luthor is clouded by how wonderful a job that Clancy Brown did in the animated universe years ago.  My wonderful girlfriend and I had a long debate that she liked the change and that it is more realistic that he would have ticks and idiosyncrasies like Luthor did in the film.  For me it just didn't feel like Luthor.    A great character but not what I think of as Luthor.

Next the flick is long.  151 minutes long.  Throw in trailers and what not and it was nearly a 3 hour movie going experience.  LONG!  The weird thing there weren't a lot of scenes they could remove. Maybe the email scene and airplane scene.  The stuff about the staff in the water but we're looking at 5 minutes, maybe 10.  

Oh one more complaint.  The fact that Grant Gustin isn't the Flash makes me sad.  Grant is amazing. I know the two Universe are different but with Grant and Stephen Amell doing amazing jobs in the roles of Barry and Oliver respectfully it makes me kind of sad.

Overall I enjoyed it and I'd like to see the supposed R rated version that might be released on DVD. Not sure where things will go with the upcoming Suicide Squad and Justice League flicks.  Oh and if you saw the flick you know that Batman wins which everyone knew would be the outcome because he is awesome!

Minions: A Movie Review

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening....whenever it is you happen to be reading this!  I'm back and this time I'm watching a flick that is not a bottom 100 movie.  Nope.  It actually has a 6.5 as of 4/29/16 on IMDB.  "Minions Stuart, Kevin and Bob are recruited by Scarlet Overkill, a super-villain who, alongside her inventor husband Herb, hatches a plot to take over the world."  It stars the classic voice actors Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm and Michael Keaton...yep.  Anyway lets get to it!

• Why wouldn't the T-Rex eat them?
• They just gave up to play in the snow?  That is weird
• Is Bob a kid?  Do the Minions age?
• Villain-Con?  Where do I sign up!
• I really don't care for the art style of these flicks
• Yetis suddenly showed up?  AWESOME!
• 68 was more technically advanced than I thought it would have been
• Where did that jet engine come from and go into?  Giggity!

• Are they minions or henchmen?
• TUBA SOLO!  He stole that joke from me damn it
• Banana?
• I don't think this is the usual 3 Little Pigs story
• I bet that lady kept the whole bar of gold
• Lots of old school cartoon jokes in this flick
• Do you think the Oompa Loompa are related to the Minions?
• Decent sound track in this flick
• King Bob...not as good as King Gene...just saying

• CORGI!!

• Get what you deserve?  That is a major threat!
• Hey Hey We're the Monkeys?
• Hanging isn't torture, it is basically killing isn't it?
• Who didn't see the Beatles there yet it worked
• That is one fucked up pigeon!
• Okay running from the bee is pretty good
• Wow Sandra Bullock really phoned some of these lines in
• BOB!  I THINK THAT FISH GUY JUST KILLED BOB!
• Well I didn't see that coming....well I did see it one other time....with Animal
• I feel like the Doctor Who music should be playing as Kevin tries to save the day
• Does her dress/rocket keep getting bigger
• MORE CORGI!

Okay that was an okay flick.  I gave it a 6/10.  Slightly more than average.  There wasn't anything that jumped out as amazing but nothing that make me want to stab myself in the eye either.  

Okay that isn't true.  The performances of Hamm and Bullock left something to be desired at times. You can tell it isn't something they do all the time.  Of course it could be the animation didn't fit the acting but I don't think so.

Overall a decent flick.  Nothing special but nothing over the top bad either.  It was average and sometimes average is good.
