Game of Thrones Season 1 review

I finally got around to watching the first season of Game of Thrones. Honestly, not nearly as good as I had heard. Maybe it is a case of being built up as being amazing and it couldn't live up. Maybe I just didn't like it.

My biggest problem is that I didn't like most of the characters. I liked Tyrion Lannister, Arya Stark and honestly that is about it. Oh I also liked Samwell. Besides that I really didn't care about any of the characters. Oh a few had a few moments. Jaime had a few moments. His brief speech about the gods I totally agreed with. Oh and I forgot I did enjoy Petyr Baelish character. I related to his character to a certain extent, and that might not be a good thing, but I did. The one I really liked was Tyrion. Just a great character, well written and even better performed. The actor, Peter Dinklage, was just fantastic.

Most of the characters seemed over/poorly written and overacted. I was disappointed in most of Sean Bean's scenes. They seemed uninspired and phoned in. Many of the other actors were just poor in their roles. I honestly don't blame them, I blame the writing. It was just bad...again in my opinion.

I know that this is not a popular opinion and most people out there would say I am wrong.

Again there were bright points, but I think that was because of good performances. The scenes with the swordmaster and Arya were very good. Anything with the half prince was awesome. Petyr's scenes were also always good. The scene where you see the real Petyr, the look on his face with dagger in had, was awesome!

Then you have scenes with the rest of the Stark's or those at the Wall...ugg! Just awful. I honestly kept thinking that it was going to get better but it didn't.

I will continue to watch as the basic story is interesting but I sure hope when I get around to watching season 2 it is better. I would give it a 1.5 out of 5 only because of Peter Dinklage!
